If you don't have $$$, stop knocking the ones that do...and btw, alot of the cars that go for big $$$ at BJ are going to museums that can charge admission to see 'em and then write them off on their taxes as a business expense...it's a business for cryin' outloud...

Well, I can tell you that working for someone else might make you comfortable, but never rich.

    As to what I think...........

There are some people invent things and make a ton of money that way.

Others go to college forever, then become Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers. A Doctor in a nice community will make thousands a day and only spend a third of that on insurance. Sure, a doctor may spend a good 10 years in college alone, but the return is worth it if that is something you would like to do.

There are those that start their own business, and the business does so well, they have others work for them, instead of doing the work thelselves. Restraunts and car dealerships often fall into this category. Then they re-invest into more businesses. Our local Convinece Stores are owned by a guy that grosses over a mil a year off them. He ownes about twenty.

Me, I joined the Army out of high school, then went to College for a 4 year degree, 20K in student loans is now paid off, now I work for the Govt. Im 33 years old, not well off by any means, but I dont stress about paying the bills. My house is not even a third paid for, but Im not renting with no equity building up either.

I hope to open a liqour store someday and eventually own it. Its a college town, common sense says it will do OK unless I just totally screw things up.

Id say, if your not making ends meet, perhaps look for something else... Maybe take night college if you didnt finish that. Accounts make great money, they just hate their jobs.

I am not knocking anybody at all! I am proud for them! All I am saying is...Where in the world does someone acquire all that kinda wealth in this short life-span we have?? I am very proud of what I have worked for and I have worked very hard too. I am also proud of those who made the donations for Charity. I would do so as well if I had that much money to spend.

  8. THEY......
Are the people who have obviously "made it" to the degree that they can spend 675,000 to 3 million DOLLARS as mindlessly as we would spend 300 dollars......
Why stress ourselves with this years auction hijinks....Next year could be the year they ignore the Hemi cudas .....and want that Traditional HOTROD of their childhood fantasies.....

A lot of these buyers don't look like doctors or lawyers unless they dress down for the occasion. None of it matters to me in the least anywaybecause even a$100,000 might as well be a million. I don't dream big because I'll never have big money..period! The max that I could spend in one chunk toward a hobby car would be around $20K and I'd need to borrow part of the money to do that. Soooo...... I'll build what I can enjoy AND afford and **** the rich *****es on BJ..:)

i guess i am just a lil jealous...i see all those BEAUTIFUL awesome cars selling for big money,,(even though in reality, they are SUPER RARE cars that i would not have been able to own in 'REAL LIFE' regardless of barret jackson:D)...

,,i guess i am just a lil mad:)D) because it ****s it up some,..for us normal guys who used to be able to drag a 'old car' home, get it running, hop it up and beat the sytem by driving and old car and 'BEAT THE SYSTEM' at the same time being cool,,,now,,,you are s****ping by,robbing peter to pay paul just to have an old car,,,

..i love old cars,,have loved them since before i can remeber,,its always been a way of life for me,,i am amazed at what the old cars are bringing,,,but at the same time i sigh,,thinking it does make it harder on those with the p***ion and not alot of cash......

I have a friend that is into the car hobby and he spends a couple million on cars a year. I have gone on trips with him to buy cars in his 37 million dollar airplane on a couple of occasions. He is very successful at what he does, and the money he makes is re-invested into other businesses that make even more money. Cars are only a part time hobby, his biggest hobby is hunting exotic animals all over the world. He will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on one hunting trip alone. Sometimes I think he is bored because he has everything he could ever want.

My wife gets more pissed at these bidders driving up the prices then I do. She's worried that we won't be able to find anything affordable when the one's we have are finished and gone.
I guy I work with has a friend in the construction business. He's so busy that he quoted a customer $7500 to paint 4 rooms in their home just to keep them from calling. They accepted the bid, now he has to figure how to turn a 2 day job into 2 weeks to keep them from feeling getting ripped off.

Some people go to the bank and borrow the money so that they can have the car of their dreams , and may make LESS money than you or I. As for me I'm delighted that some folks just plain love cars that much. I dont ***ume for a minute that these are all rich ***holes. ***holes come in rich and poor-
and in both ***es. Carry on.

It will happen that way.....just as the true cl***ics, like Duesenbergs and Rolls Royces have gone down in value. Better grab some pristine Honda Accords if you're smart.

only in America..what a country...alot of people in this country are born into money, like Donald Trump..he can say it takes guts, but it helps to have been given a bunch of real estate...I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, I'd rather struggle here than anywhere.

True...but it can be done from scratch. One of the richest men in my town started out cutting lawns....saved up and bought his first ten acres at the age of 12. Just recently he fought the US in supreme court over DEQ regs.....he has guts.

Well , Me & my wife are happy ... We are both friends and lovers :) ( since 1988 )
If you added 100% to our economy , I doubt that it would make us happier ...
Every day you wake up is a gift .. Take well care of it , you will NEVER get it back !
The fun I`ve had building my own HotRods can not be bought. It is priceless ... Any rich guy could probably buy my Hot rod if he gave me an offer I could not refuse , but It is not in my power to ad the fun I had building it become a part of the deal...

Thanks for explaining that! I didn't see that sale, and I'm glad the sale price is going to a great cause.

So they invite their buddys over to show them what they bought and sip champagne.

My buddys stop buy to help wrench and build, beers outside in the snow and we piss behind the shed.

Unfortunately, if you're working for someone, you're not making as much money as you could working for yourself in the right field.

I also believe that there's an invisible line where most people give up in business ventures, and a few select people stick it out and succeed. I think that people have to recognize that line and commit themselves to crossing it no matter what the sacrifice. It's that point where you want to quit the most that you have to keep going.

I personally used to work for a couple of the big magazine publishing companies, and I made no money. After I got sick of these companies, I tried getting a job at Car Crazy -- I was politely told that I would get a call later in the week, which never happened.

I realized that I was letting life happen instead of making life happen. I started my own publishing company a year and a half ago, and was close to starving at one point, but the business is now at the point where other people handle the money and I can focus on the creative side of things. And I started with money I made from selling a 1987 Toyota Corolla.

Now, I am starting to invest some money in different ventures rather than letting it sit in a shoebox under the bed. Real estate, stocks, FOREX, etc. Basically anything that I don't have to babysit in order for me to make money.

I'm not rich by any means, but eventually I will be at the rate the business is growing. My system is one of planning and perseverance, where every step I take is deliberate and contributes to the success of the business and those I employ. "I can't lose."-- that's basically the at***ude someone must have in order to make it.

A lot of people use Jesse as an example. He created an image that was marketable, and granted his family name didn't hurt, but that along with his quality work was his winning combination. Well, that and countless sleepless nights of planning his dream. Would he be making as much money if he were still working for Boyd instead of venturing off on his own?

My wife happens to be another example. She was working for one of California's largest universities as a caregiver in a daycare program. She saw how she could make improvements in the childcare field, and now she gets paid to be a consultant and often lectures at universities about child care and development. She basically created her own position and is now one of the highest paid teachers in her field, and next week a film crew is coming down to do***ent her methods for a series of training videos.

Neither one of us came from money. My parents were always broke due to their own issues, and my wife's parents picked fruit in northern California fields from their early childhoods. They eventually worked their way out of it (her mom actually recently became a doctor), but that wasn't until years after my wife moved out and put herself through school.

As you can see I have many views on this, but the last tidbit I'll post for now is (and this has been repeated to me many times and holds true): it's not how hard you work for your money, it's how hard your money works for you.

Sorry for the long read, but this is something I also struggled with for many years. It's hard to break the cycle of sacrificing your own blood, sweat, and tears for someone else, but it can definitely be done.
