Super rare, #5 of 8 left in the world.1935 Cadillac Lasalle roadster. Sell it to a restorer, or we build it as a custom? What's your 2 cents? The lasalle people will turn over in thier grave. 1st million dollar rat rod?
I hate to say it... but if there are only 8 left in the world I have to say let somebody else restore it, and find a similar styled car that was produced in a larger quantity and perform those great custom trick on that. Perhaps it would be a bit more work to get the lines seen in the photoshoped image, but with all the fantastic work I have seen from OZ that would not be a problem.
That car actually came to mind with me as well, but I'm with some of the other folks, something that rare should be restored......God its tempting to say otherwise though.
do you know we are the one's who built the "Gable"? I think the Lasalle would be one step up from the Gable.
power up the cutting tools! #5 of 8 means nothing, it was gonna be finished into a awesome automobile kustomized or not.
The bodywork on Gable is beautiful. Sorry I didn't know you were involved with that car. I just knew it as a John D'Agustino (sp?) car. Yeah, that LaSalle is a super nice old car, so it deserves to be preserved for future generations, but if it was customized not too extreme where it still kept the whole original feel and style of the car, then that would be something that would be right up there with some of the best customs in the world. I think if you could do things to it that are really classy and "timeless" that it will be a favorite forever. I think you should keep stuff like the grill and the headlights and tail lights and door handles and stuff like that stock or close to stock so it won't lose too much of it's original style. It would totally wreck it if somebody did something like put a curved windshield on it or grafted some horrible looking plastic Mercedes headlights on it, or put some ugly high back seats with giant headrests on them. Not that you would ever do those things! but I just hate when they do stuff like that to cars that are true Classics.
That's O.K, I hear that alot, There are alot of people who think John builds his own cars, but in reality He dropes them off and hands me a check, That's all. Here is a list of cars we have done for John D. 67 Lincoln, Pink 56 Packard, 58 Caddy, 67 olds, 41 Packard "Gable",67 Eldorado, Just finnished the 57 olds in shades of candy gold. Check out my web site, ozkustom.com I'm curently starting a 58 Packard concept car for John right now, Zombie is doing the drawing as we speak.
As much as I hate to say it, I would say sell it to a restorer and let them do what they have to with it... 5 of 8 , I mean come on...I didnt think customising for the sake of customising was the name of the game. I think we gotta draw the line somewhere in what we leave as is, and what we customise. For example, I can't understand why people find period perfect old school survivor customs and hot rods then go about changing them into this and that when there are plenty of other things out there not as significant to cut up and play with.... Anyway, just my 2c, I'm sure if a restorer restores it to it's former glory it will be awesome, but if u guys customise it, it will be F'N Awesome!!
I just checked out your site. Yeah, that's a bunch of great cars you've worked on, and I've seen a bunch of them at various shows, and they're all top notch. I saw that "tangerine" car at a show at Pleasanton last year and fell in love with the car and with that tangerine paint, and that's when I made up my mind to paint my '32 Ford pickup a similar shade of tangerine. I made a custom mix of basecoats and shot HOK Kandy over it. Did it myself in my driveway. I must be crazy. That car definitely inspired me. Thanks!
I guess the other 7 cars are restored... so cut this one up, no need for 8 cars looking more or less the same. Besides, the other owners will thank you if you cut this one up. You know, if you restore it, their cars' value will decrease.
That's pretty funny, It's not like it's the last one in the world. There IS 7 left and if someone wants it restored that bad, then show me the $$$$$$. It's not like I'm gonna put square headlights in it, or a sun roof. I'm just gonna inhance the beauty of the car.
The cost of restoration would equal or exceed the cost of customizing. Done right, like you obviously have in the past, the final value would surely exceed that of a restored version. It's a LaSalle. Mid range "price point" car from the General. Anyone ever wonder why certain cars are rare? Maybe it wasn't as desirable in it's OEM form, or maybe the sister Cadillacs were nearly the same $$$. My opinion? Definately do your thing. That's an ultimate candidate for a deco looking kustom. Has some way kool features like the hood sides, grille, and I'm sure the instrument panel has some wild looks as well, right? Swap in a multi carbed early Cad motor for good measure. But only on 1 condition...you WILL keep us updated on the progress
i say restore and then put it on barrett jackson and then build any custom you want..if theres only 8 left restored would bring a mint..thats my .02 cents
it's all about the money these days. what's it worth to a pebble beach guy? what's it worth to a custom collector after you finish it? me personally, I'd rather see it restored. you could build just as cool of a car out of a more common 4 door sedan and no one would ever know what it started out as. once you start cutting, how much of the original car will remain?
I say make a custom out of it. Make the car a one of a kind. I have seen your work and its all super nice and tastfull. So do your thing with it.
I would cut that thing up. No if's ands or buts. You know what you need to do. Scott Blue Collar Customs
