Hello everybody. Like many of you I love old cars. Had many cool old cars for the last 30 years but got side tracked when I started racing circle track in 1990. The last few years I have been slowing down a little on the racin' and getting back into having old cars. I presently own a 29 Whippet 4 door that is about 75 % restored, a 58 Belair 4 door and a 58 El Camino rat rod project (was a 4 dr sw). My wife says I never finish anything but my race cars and she is right. Once I can drive them...I drive them.
Manchaca (Manshak) is just south of the Austin city limits...pretty much deep south Austin now. Went to a few homecomings in Corsicana with my older siblings back in the 70's and 80's. Drag raced out a crowded Sonic one saturday night in a 56 Chevy when a cop who was eating there turned on his dash lights !
Thanks for the welcome, thought I'd return the favor, from a fellow fng! So you say your '58 was a long roof and now its the "El Camino that never was?" I gotta see pics of that!
Or Pavement Racing?? What cl*** cars? I ran hobby cl***, 3/8 mile dirt for many years, but the dust an fumes got to my lungs so had to quit.. Its kinda like quitin drinkin--things don't seem much as fun anymore .. It does teach you that anything can be done to a car.. I thought I was a wrench before I started dirt trackin. Got took to school.. PA
I've run asphalt since 1990. Bought and sold a few dirt cars but never got to race them. I race a Super Stock Camaro and am building an entry level car for my oldest daughter. It kinda pisses me off because it is so expensive...could have a few neat old cars for what I spend on racin'. Just can't kick the rush I get from racing. I have built a lot of circle track cars and can use my knowledge building old rods now (and some of my backup race engines and parts too).
Thats cool... lets see it!.. now theres at least two,....check out hamber "Choprods" he built a 58 El Fabricino for a few years...looks like it rolled off the ***embly line...too cool...Welcome to the HAMB...
