word on the street is that the color chart from the site is no more than a page from a printer, not a true color chip chart. We found this out in my thread regarding buying Flatz or flattening your own paint mix.

Did you ever get pictures of the Hot Rod Flatz Gunsmoke? I am looking to get that color but want some pictures or a sample before I buy.

    Thanks!

I ordered a quart of this stuff and realy love the color. I am having trouble spraying it though with an HVLP gun. I am getting alot of "droplets" which is causing the paint to not lay smooth. I am sure it is my lack of experience, but hopefully some gun setting changes will fix it..

I just sprayed midnight black metallic this weekend on my t- roadster, sprayed with a regular gun,it came out great, it was real easy to spray, probably some of the best i have sprayed, dried smooth with a even flat sheen.

You have a moisture trap filter? The condensation might be causing the drops.

The color chart was worthless. I got it with my sample of the Gunsmoke and it is the same pictures as on the website. I will post pictures of my car once it is done. I expect to be finished spraying today.

Don't forget - any representation on a piece of paper or even your monitor is most likely NOT what you will actually get out of the can. The settings on monitors vary so much, the likelehood of seeing an accurate representation are a million to one. It's more like a ballpark estimate.

  15. I'd still be interested in seein' the pix, thanks. sounds pretty neat, although I may just stick w/ patina. Always lookin' for some awesome flat, or suede colors, as well.

No pictures yet, but here are my thoughts so far:

I wish the paint came out smoother. Not being able to color sand or buff has made things extremely difficult. I ended up wet sanding the entire car after it was done and doing a few more "thin" coats which left a more even finish, but it is rough to the touch.

The paint instructions state to lay down 2 wet coats. This covered very well, but again, I was left with a somewhat uneven finish.

All in all, the paint was pretty inexpensive which is a big plus, but came out "flatter" than I hoped.

It seems like the paint should still feel smooth, but it is probably my technique (or lack of) that left it rough to the touch. Some of the smaller interior pieces came out perfect.

I will post pictures once the car is back together.

I almost ordered one of these last night. I would have completed the order but they were charging about $7.00 0n top of the price for shipping.

total ripoff for a piece of paper. I'd still like to see a good color chart though.

IM having the same problems trying to make up my mind on colors.
I have ordered paint off the internet and its not even close to what was on the site. I ordered a raspberry pearl paint and when I opened the can it was almost pink.
Thanks for the heads up on the color chart. I was going to order one.
Any of you guys post some pics so we can see actual cars in these colors.
    Many Thanks

I used a fairly cheap gun from Northern Tool. Tip size was 1.4. It worked great on smaller panels, but again on the larger panels I ended up having to "mist" the paint to get it even. It came out lighter than the color chart picture.

This is the biggest job that I have ever done, so it was a learning curve. I am sure there is room to improve how I did it. It looks really good, I would just like a smoother feel to the paint.

Actually, it wouldn't be hard to tape everything off and do another wet coat if I could figure out how to make it lay smooth.

Sometimes when smaller parts or curved parts come out better, it's because you are closer to them, they get more paint evenly layed...On bigger flat panels, sometimes people are afraid they will run the paint so they speed up or hold the gun to far away and it causes a rough surface....dunno..just my expierence...love to see a pic...Im getting ready to shoot the old gold mettalic.....hope its close to the color they say it is....

That seems like what happened. I was using an HVLP gun but considering trying a regular gun for another coat.

I need to adjust the camera. The color is slightly darker than it shows in the pictures.

    Here are some preliminary pictures:

Check the cfm of the gun as to the output of your compressor also...a lot of compressors cant put out what the gun needs as a constant
