And that dream-killing mentality is exactly what keeps it from happening. There's not a millionaire alive (except for a few lottery winners) who have gotten to where they are by thinking that way.

You don't have to be smart to be rich. For instance. The son of that guy with the Tennesee hat who is always at Barrett-Jackson. That kid could be dumb as a post but will be/is rich as hell.

I wonder how long it will take for history to repete itself. Back in 1971 the world record for a car sold at auction was @,$65,000.00, and the new owner was offered 13 MILLION fifteen years or so later. Since then he's had the car totally restored, so it should be worth more. Let's check in on the Super Snake in 15 years.

THAT IS THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!! Having the balls to look someone in the eyes and quote that number! Get 50% down do a killer job as fast as you can collect the other 50%, and wait for the calls from all the customers friends. At some point I guess you can fall asleep once you convince yourself you are worth those rates. The way I look at it the differance between working cl*** people and rich people is we know what our hourly rate is. ;)

Guys who think B-J is driving up the price of cars are full of it! If anything, they are setting a market for smart guys who can profit by it. A couple of years ago, I bought a 1948 Chrysler T&C for $80,000. The car had 72,000 actual miles and had never been restored. I sold it for $110,00 and the guy that bought it put a new top on it and detailed with some parts, refinished the wood and will sell it at a profit down the line.

I bought a 48 Chevy Streamline coupe for $30,000 last year with 54,000 actual miles and the Country Club wood option. Turned down $45,000 at GG in Scottsdale. There's enough profit in this car so that I can make money and so can the next guy, thanks to B-J.

Can't wait to see the HAMB threads if and when the owner puts the Ratster by Boyd across the B-J stage and it sells for mega bucks!

I still these people are nuts. If I ever pay $100,000 for a car, I'm gonna get something nice.

Somebody once said something to the effect that there's no such thing as luck, only preperation and opportunity. I'' add "balls" to that.
How many people would be willing to mortgage their house, invest every penny they have and maybe go waaaaay into debt, including their kid's college fund, to invest in a dream?

Yeah, some are born with a silver s****, but there are a lot of people with big bucks that risked everything they had for a dream. I recall reading that Jay Leno slept in his '55 Buick when he was trying for a start in his business.

  10. I realize the million dollar Hummer was for an excellant cause as well as Ressler throwing in another 1/4 million but the bidder didn,t look to well. Like he was gonna faint....

Tom Monaghan of Dominos pizza went bankrupt twice before things worked...GUTS. He's a car guy and paid 8.2 million for a Bugatti Royale. Nothing wrong with that concept.

I'll be there if I'm not fertilizing tulips by then, '37. In '73 at a used car lot I sat in a '65 SC, red with black seats, Halibrands, 5000 miles for $9000. I thought I'd never make that much $$$ in my lifetime. Who'd a thunk it??

I like to watch B-J. The guys that buy that kind of stuff are't the ones who take a shovel, go through the woods to a ditch and spend six hours digging out an old car. Then drag the pile of rust home, cut ,weld, hammer, and cuss till they have a running machine. They buy their car, I build mine, we both get a car. I am more than happy they can afford those cars. If they were all poor like me,and I seen one of them heading off to the woods. I'd hit'em up side the head with my shovel!...I do think the high bids on the charity cars was very cool..

BJ sells investment quality cars. Most buyers choose the car based on it's projected ability to go up in price. It's like buying stocks. If they hold onto it long enough, it's value will go up. The car is no different than a bar of gold or a barrel of oil. It just looks better sitting in a gl*** case.

My wife and I (girlfriend then) got to see Cosby live at the Univ. of AZ when we were students in 1969, not too long after the "200 MPH" album came out. Saw him live again in 2002 in the same auditorium. He's great live. We had all of his albums and our kids used to listen to them in the 1980's. They are 30 and 26 now and still can quote lines from the albums. Good comedy never dies.

Sometimes the money from a B-J sale does some good. Carroll Shelby KNOWS how to give back to those less fortunate because he remembers from whence he came.

Glad to see the car set a record and for a good cause at the same time.

The man who is rich is the one with a loving wife, kids that turned out well, and when he dies, a funeral procession of 500 people who will truely miss him. Every thing else is just material.

You hit it on the nose Hellraiser-I'm not rich by any means, but I have a great wife who supports me in this hobby,3 great kids and I don't owe anyone a cent(except mortgage). We have fun with building, driving, selling and building again, and are fortunate to meet alot of truly good people doing it all!I guess watching B-J,I too get a little envious of all the cash,or maybe seeing such great cars going to someone as a investment instead of doing what tha car was meant to do-drive!My two cents!

Personally I think it's cool as hell that a guy with that much money still likes old Fords, he could just as easily been blowing that money on a Pic***o or something. When I hear about cars like this coming up for auction it just kicks my mind into overdrive thinking about which ones I'd buy if Ed McMahon showed up at my door with a check............

It's always curious to see the reactions people have to someone else spending a ton of money. I think they break down into two groups; those who are convinced they'll never have that kind of coin and think it isn't fair that someone else has it to spend rather than give away, and those who think it's cool, because they can envision themselves having it one day and work towards it.

    There is third group.

Those that just enjoy the cars ( even if its just looking at them ), and dont give a **** what others buy and sell them for.
