It appears that my RH exhaust manifold needs to be replaced on my 1960 Impala. When speaking with the mechanic he pointed out that I should be looking for a manifold with a p*** through for the choke tube. I've been searching online and cannot seem to locate a replacement part that specifically mentions this aspect of the manifold. The car has the original 2bbl carb with single exhaust and I'm hoping to keep it asoriginal as possible. Can anyone recommend a part or supplier? Thanks for any help.
Try Ecklers cl***ic chevy. They have a pretty good selection of good used parts. Prices are fairly reasonable.
Any RH center dump 2 inch outlet ram's horn through '63 should work. In '64, the 2bbl engines went to a choke spring in the crossover of the intake and no longer used a heat tube.
If you can't find the correct one, they used to sell a kit where you clamped on a piece to the manifold to run a choke heater to. Came with clamp, part, and copper heat transfer tube and fittings.
Thanks Everyone. This is great info and I really appreciate it. I think I'm going to have to make some calls and see if someone can help with this part. I happened to find This Manifold but cannot tell if it has the choke tube p*** through. This part search has left me wondering if I should consider converting the car to dual exhaust. Without changing out the carb, do you think I'd see any difference in performance?
The choke heater kit sounds interesting and I'll have to discuss the electric choke option with my mechanic. He breifly mentioned staying away from the electric choke option, said 'it would be a shame to do that', but I'll be honest... This is my first older car and it's 100% original right nowso I'm hesitant to make any non-stock changes.
yes you will notice the difference if you install dual exhaust but beware, once you turn down the path of altering the stocker for performance there is no turning back, next you will want better shocks, sway bars, and tires then it will be multiple carburetors and hotter ignition, you'll start hanging out with speed crazy punks talking cams and high compression racing fuel and burning rubber and spending all your money on trying to go just a little bit faster...
whats wrong with your present manifold. post some pic's as it may not be that bad and can be fixed. a good welder can usually fix one of these.
55Dude - Sorry, don't have any pics but it's beyond help. I don't even think I'd feel right asking someone to try and repair it . Paul - Sounds like my kind of crowd so I'm not scared....yet. Cruisinkruty - I think the electric choke is going to be the short term solution. I've found a replacement manifold that is lacking the choke tube p*** through so for the time being the electric choke option will get her back on the road while I hunt for the original manifold and choke tubes. HEATHEN - Took your advice and found one right away but without the p*** through. Looks like we'll be cruisin soon.
