I have a 78 camaro 10 bolt posi rear that I plan to swap into my 48 3100. My question regards using the stock leafs vs. one of the after market leaf spring setups. Has anyone used the stock springs and modified them so their truck sits low enough (ex. modify the shackles, remove leafs, lowering blocks, etc)? If you went the after market route, which kit did you buy and how happy with it were you? Thanks, -Rich
take a couple leaves out of the springs and put the axle on top of the springs. should give you about a 4 inch drop and ride better.
I used S-10 leaf springs and 2" lowering blocks. The springs cost me $125 at a local boneyard. I used the stock shackles and made my own front mounts. If you want a kit, Chassis Engineering makes good stuff. Simple, easy to install, and it works. Chris
Anyone got a pic of an AD truck running 3 stock leaves front and back? It is the route I am thinking about taking but don't know how it will look.
I think it would definitely lower the truck but mite not be safe. Those orig. truck springs are pretty narrow and 3 per set mite not be strong enuf. I mite try 4 per spring (I always run 5 in the rear, clip the front), but I don't think I'd try 3, but you can. Just my 2 cents.
