I was curious if anybody had any info on 413 wedge motors,i got 1 and im curious as to how good they are and what potencial they have. Jamie if Dead City MC/CC
What year 413? Basically the same engine as a 440 goes for speed equipment, just the bore size is a little smaller...
Is it a truck or industrial style engine? P***enger cars used the 413 from 1959 until around 1965. Trucks had them until around 1973. Does the engine have a raised waterpump? I'm ***uming it has 6 bolts per valve cover...
The 413 is indeed a baby 440 with some important diffs. The cylinder head is a small exhaust valve (1.60") deal with early ports that don't flow as well as later 68 and up heads. They are also closed chamber...good for comp ratio but not much else. There was a one year only head in 67 for the new 440hp with closed chambers and big exhaust valves (1.74"). Don't bother with these, go for the later "906" or "452" heads or **** it up and get Edelbrocks or indys...they all bolt up the same as will all the intakes (exc 361 and 383, 400)There was a monster called the MAX WEDGE 413. Google it and behold the 420 hp chevy eating monster. Oil pans could be troublesome as the sump locale changed for trucks and full sized cars as opposed to intermediates. Just get a 440 or hemi pan and appropriate oick up and be done with it. I say build it and dress it up with some long ram intakes and the cast iron max wedge exhausts or dress a 440 the same and take advantage of the cubes....buena suerte...fellow mopehead...KT
Intermediates (B bodies) had the same center sump pan location as the C body full sized cars- or any cars as far as I know- A,B,C,E,F,J,M etc, trucks and vans were the rear sump.
Build it, you won't regret it. With even a mild build you'll love the thing. They make great power and torque and wonderful sounds when the foot feed is on the floor, and there are lots of goodies available for the RB engines. Love my 440. Named the car "Boris" cause it's bad enough.
thank you all for the help, the motor actually use to belong to Kyle Petty when he drag raced in the early 70s and very long story short I had it given to me by a very good friend that also has a 70 cuda with a 427 hami also built and raced by Kyle and a 71 roadrunner that he use to race against Petty and others back then, the 413 has only about 60 miles on it since then, its been in a garage every since,i needs to be gone through and thats its as far as i can tell.
