Hey kids, new here. I have a *******ized 1950 or so Olds 88 of some sort. iI'd lke to get 'er on the road in a safe but inexpensive fashion. My immediate concerns are the brakes and suspension; both appear to be original to the car. I have a plethora of Oldsmobiles from the '70's and '80s available to me...can the disc brake setup on, say, a G-body Cutl*** be retrofittied on? If not, what are some options? Thanks for your time, guys.

Oh sorry, I wasn't trying to ****talk or whatever, I was just wondering why you sent him there, those forums generally cater to the musclecar community from what I've noticed, I've gotten some real good answers here on putting discs on obscure cars. I've been looking for an early Olds forever and all I ever see over there is 442s and stuff from that era...

Yeah, those guys seem really into anything post '64. Nobody there seems to know much of anything about the older stuff; so I figured a site that's all about old **** like my beater might be a good place to look and ask about!
All the disc brake parts I have are in good to very good shape; just wanted to know if anyone hadany experience converting one of these old tubs to front discs. And, as an added bonus, if anyone knows if a more modern rear-end will slide underneath, hey, icing on the flat black cake.

Sounds similar to Denise's BigOlds, even though that is a '47. I bet it can be done. And those other places will not know about the older cars. I go to them and know that for sure.

you just have to wait a little over there. there's a few guys that will have the answer and also the actual specs for the late model brakes and such so you'll have more info for doing the swap.

redneck smooth, too bad you're not closer to utah...i know of a couple olds projects like you're looking for. strangely enough, i grew up in batesville IN. i'll get a hold of some of my friends out that way and see if they know of any oldsmobiles for ya.

IMO ,I would subframe that 50 with a 70's donor car.

Rod & Custom has an artical on a new king pin kit in the current issue. Mike Pemberton,mpemberton@charter.net, has a disc. brake kit that uses all olds. parts availible at any parts store.:p

I used a 1977 Cutl*** front frame section on my 48 Olds 98 conv and it worked out really welll. I think the 50 has the same tread width as the 48 98- at least the sheetmetal and bumpers are almost the same. If this front end is to wide you might measure the later 78 and up metric intermediate ch***is, It might be a little narrower than the earlier ch***is.

Scarebird was my first thought, too, but he doesn't show anything for the early Olds. Hell, I've got a '58 and he's got nothing. I've heard his kits are well-engineered though and the thought of using parts you can source from Autozone is definitely good for someone who intends to drive their car. His prices are also excellent...
