Had an afternoon off and decided to go to Van's Junkyard in Waupun at one time they had over 4000 cars from the 40, 50 and 60's. Was shocked at how much stuff is already gone . They plan on scraping almost every thing out....Man what a crime !
We were there about a month ago and bought a 53 Mercury flattie that turns over, complete from starter to aircleaner and a mercomatic trans for $250. The odometer had 46000 miles on it and the hood was closed. We tore it down and it is like new. trans is good also. They have more flatties in there. Kermit
Wow. What's the time schedule on the scrapping out there? If it's all gonna be gone, I need to get out there and get some stuff. Man, that's so stupid. They got a yard full of gold and they're crushing it all, yet if you look at their eBay auctions, they're selling turn signal cams for $2. What a bunch of morons. They weren't open on Saturdays last time I was there. Anyone want to get together for a Wisconsin junkyard crawl? I'm in for sure.
They are open the first and third Sat of each month...he said he was sick of the BS so they will do the Ebay thing only after they scraped almost every thing else . they had a 56 chevy on the pile to scrap I saved a bunch of parts off it .
If anybody is out there again, would you mind looking for some 56 chevy stuff for me? 2 door 210 trim Could use some fenders.
...that's a real shame, haven't been there for quite awhile, but that place always had interesting stuff. Do they still have the "yard sheep" grazing around? ...(to keep the weeds down) Mite have to make a road trip, they selling stuff pretty reasonable?
No, new owners 4 years ago ..there was a guy from N.Ill there to day he bought a nailhead mill and some parts
What trim we pulled the front window SS of the one to day . if your asking about side trim no . no front fenders for any tri five left either
...are they really goin out of business or goin to late model stuff? They got any 47-54 Chev/GMC pickups left?
We bought some Chebby P/U sheet metal from them 2 years ago and they had several decent trucks there at that time. Kermit
They are not going out of business ! "They just want to get rid of the cars they have been sitting on for god knows how long just to sell a 1- $10 part every 10 years ".
Processed scrap (chopped and sorted) is leaving the west coast every hour for China. Metal prices alone should empty out most of the yards. Even scrap plastic prices are good. We are a nation of consumers now. Hot rodders aren't even on the charts.
So, they're not crushing out the whole yard, just the picked over stuff? I can't imagine a '56 Chevy being one of the ones getting junked if they're planning on saving much. Me and Cliffy are going to make a trip down there soon to see what's going out and what can be saved. Gauder, Sending a PM your way.
PM me your phone number and we'll let you know. Hopefully in the next week or so. Gotta round up some cash and put a wheel bearing in my truck.
Yeah, those guys are morons. I have watched their auctions for a while, spin their wheels like crazy. I have more $$ in ten ebay auctions then they do in 100 and they have an unlimited supply of big dollar stuff. I see them at the wholesale auctions buying luminas, Tauruses and all kinds of stupid JUNK that isn't even worth messing with. They are just blind to see the fortune in front of them while they try to make it big selling beater cars. I'll bet 30 days I would wager I could could sell $150,000 worth of stuff out of their yard and not crush one car. I just can't understand how some people think. Yeah, I am up for a cruize out there next week. Pick a day and let's do it! How does Monday or Tuesday sound?
Were is this place located in Wi. Im layed off for the winter and need to find some parts. I can go any day!!!
can someone post pictures?? I`m from holland...man i would kill to vissit such a place... This summer i will be in Cali for a month
I'm going back soon, too. There isn't much left metal wise, but lots of 4 door trim and glass. All chrome is badly pitted. The place is basically a swamp. I've been going there for years and talked to the owner a few months ago and he said they are crushing everything. They've been slowly crushing for years, but now they're done messing around. He said as soon as the ground freezes and they can get trucks in they'll start crushing again. Fortunately it's been warm so far. Last year we saw them haul out truck loads of motors, including dozens of Olds rockets... straight to the crusher.
