I bought this from the previous owner that I started the section for and put a little more time in it and just about have the body all mocked up. Still have a ton of work left but I thought I should post some more pics of in between stages. Im still not exactly sure what I will do for headlights, taillights, the grille, or bumpers but Im thinking about front and rear rollpans with bumperettes. But I cant make up my mind. I also dont know what I will do for the top either but I'll figure it out.anyway here are a few pics... I moved the suspension back 1 3/8" and extended the fender when I sectioned them so the front wheels are pretty centered now. They look really far forward from factory.
I like it! Just enough to slim it down, and not too much to make it look like a cartoon. I think you could get a really good, clean look to it, like "The Polynesian". Maybe a few inches lower (but not on the ground), and raise the fenderwheel openings? I can see it in a medium or lightish flake blue, white interior, those caps, and slightly thinner white line tires. I'm really digging it!
I took 4 1/4" out and the top body line is sitting on the rear inner fender wells. I do love the look of the polynesian and hope mine will turn out similar to it.
Damn, that looks like a **** load of work. Looks killer. My vote is for a pale yellow just to be different
I like that a lot! Very nice work, I'll have to find the first post and check out the cut lines. Looks like you were able to save the round front edge of the quater panel bump out.
i second the SLIGHT chop aswell. nothin too heavy, just enough to slim down the entire profile and even the proportions out between the top and the body.
I love section'd cars. So many of them cut to much out and looking at the your pictures, your hitting a home run with the proportions. Keep up the good work and keep us posted with the progress. Happy Trails, Mick
If you don't chop it, how about pie cutting the hood. It still looks a little bulky up front.............Looks good........Mike
Here is a couple of the firewall, It fits together really good. I am thinking about a mild chop just a couple of inches to make look like it should have came that way. I also want to get rid of that hump in the back of the roof that these have. I even thought about putting a different roof on it. Just chop the sides and keep the side gl*** just cut down and change the front windshield, the top of the roof, and the rear window. I think if I chose the right top it would look killer but I dont know if it would be worth all of the work. I want to drive this to the lone star round up as a finished car and I wouldnt have that done for sure by then. I guess I could always do that later though.
Making me dream some more about my cars! Looks like it is going to HAVE to be done. How difficult is it to pull those door skins down?
I will probably pie the deck lid but I dont know about the hood, looking at it from the side I dont think the hood would follow the same line as the fenders. I might try to keep the same line but take a little bulk out of the very front of the hood. BTW kustomkulture1951 I love that buick in your profile
The doors were alot easier than I thought, I just measured over and over and made sure my kuts were precise and they went back together perfectly. I split the bottom seam and pealed back both sides so I could reuse them and the skin was loose. Then once I cut the 4 1/4" out of the inside part of the door I slid it up and welded it back. With my cuts flush the angle was right on with the body. I was nervous bolting that first door back up but it fit just like before. all of the gaps are almost poerfect without any adjustments. Oh and my cust were just below the window mechanisms and the onlyu thing I had to move was the piece that limits how far the window can roll down. I just drilled out the spot welds and drilled holes 4 1/4" below them and welded that back up as well. Its kind of hard to see in the picture but the spot welds are right under the lower cut.
Ever since I saw a design sketch in Rod & Custom I wanted to build a '54 with a Fleetline roof & tail. If you'd like to be the guy to finish this dream send me a PM. This body came out of Kansas and is real solid, and I'll cut you a good deal.
Hey, how 'bout section (pie cut) the roof panel towards the rear to remove that hump ya wanna wack? Cut the A,B&C-posts as usual, and than pie cut and reshape those areas in the above the sail panels to reshape that area of the roof. Marginally easier than refittin a whole other roof clip. That is unless, ya jus' want a whole new look. S****ey Devils C.C.
Man,,,i wanted to do this sooo bad to mine now i wish i had tht car back. You've done an amazing job on it!! I really dig it!
Camera is working! Here are the photos I mentioned in my PM. Send me your address in the next Pm and I'll get thi in the mail to you. PROMISS not to copy these tail light & grill treatment.
