I was corrected of my wrong doings two weekends ago. Last year when I ground the head on my Plymouth I thought what a great idea it would be to install new hardware, since I media blasted the head and painted it all ***y like. Well my mistake was purchasing Grade 8 hardware from a local Farm and Barn store. It was pointed out to me that due to the compression loads that this engine will place on the head even Grade 8 hardware will stretch and I will end up with a blown head gasket again. I am so thankful that this was pointed out to me. I had thoughts of just reusing the original head bolts but when they turned up missing I consulted the P-15 website. It was recommended to try ARP head studs. I decided that these would do the trick. These studs are a little on the costly side (approx 5 bucks a piece) but in the long run I think the decision to run quality will be advantageous. Especially since it may prevent another blown gasket incident. Thanks to blueskies for his help. i dont know about big.. but i sure would like to build it up a little get some power more out of it. i am torn if i should a small block but i love the way the I6's sound they are so cool with split exhuast manifolds.. if you have any info on how to get a little more power out of these please send it my way! No Shine--- Ya know it is kinda funny some of the reference sources I have taked to. One of the more interesting sources I have talked to is people who use vintage Allis Chalmers tractors in pulling compe***ions. Some of these tractors came with Mopar sixes in them. It is funny to hear the little sneaky modifications that these people have done to them in order to get more HP. Check that out if you have access. Anybody can run a small block whatever,, but personally I am addicted to my 6 and I am still dealing with a overall stock motor. Good luck if you ever need help, get ahold of me. Yah no problem. Don't be scared to tear into it. Just do***ent as you go. I started a car diary that has each bolt removed step by step as I fix something different. Those pulling tractor guys know all the tricks. One guy I talked to said he saw the head lift off the block 5/8 inch, then set back down on an AC tractor while it was pulling. It was turbo'd and ran nitrous. Gives me ideas for my flat 6. -Jeff
Jeeeeeezus! Turbo and nitrous!!! Holy sheeet! Wonder what he used for a head gasket. I have heard that they are kinda the Achilles heal of these motors. 4Woody. Nice motor. I have always dug your car also. When and where did you get your head? Oh and a special request..... Can I see your linkage set up? Sorry for the slow reply... Actually got the head from a neighbor (Detonator's brother) who got it at Turlock and (inexplicably) didn't use it. I'll post some linkage pics, let me know if they don't show whatever you want to see.
