My Dad wants to put a T-5 behind the flathead in his coupe, but we are NOT transmission rebuilders. Anybody have a good source for a T-5 rebuilt in a custom way? I think we would want World Cl*** type innards, with a Chevy bolt pattern on the front, a forward-ish handle location (S10?), and manual speedo drive.

And a reasonable price wouldn't hurt either.

    Well damn!

Everybody - just forget what I said... right the F now. That Tremec makes that T5 look like an expensive doorstop!

Super duty all Chromoly steel construction gear set
    Ultimate strength 1-piece countershaft
Improved shifter with user-adjustable spring bias centering
Dual mechanical and electronic speedometer outputs
(TKO-600) Close ratio 2.87 1st gear for less 1-2 RPM drops
(TKO-600) TALL 0.64 overdrive ("Street option") for lower cruising RPMs and longer engine life (0.82 "Road Race" option still available)"

I wish I had that kind of cash. I'll have to wait for the transmission fairy to leave one under my pillow. :)

Man, it seems like the price is well worth saving up for one for - it's new with a warranty!

The TKO is the way to go. It could even get stuck behind a 348/409, too...

The only relationship of a T-5 to a T-56 is that they both have an input and output shaft. There is no( that is NO ) comparison. S-10 T-5's are not world cl***. At least the 4 banger models are not. I don't thnk the V-6's are either. Also be careful, around 1990 The T-5 was no longer used in the S-10. Around that time GM began building thier own Manual ****** at the New Venture Gear Muncie plant.

The T-56 will handle some big horsepower. Much more than even the T-5 world cl***. A T-5 will handle some power if the car is light and has small tires. Big meats and horsepower will melt any T-5. The T-5/T-4 was originally designed for small cars and low horsepower. Not meaning to rant but just carefully ***es applicataions.

I bought a new S-10 T-5 on the pallet from the local Chevy dealer for $1200.
