Well today started out well intentioned enough. My HoK KP2 primer was fully cured and blocked yesterday. I put down 2 coats of black Ko-Seal this morning in preparation for my color coat (BC-05 Lapis Blue). Then the FUN began. Long story short, I had some equipment problems and didn't finish getting my color coats on much less spraying any clear . Actually, I only got one light coat of base. This is an outdoor job and I ran out of daylight so I pulled it all into the garage for the night. Now for the question...

This light color coat is at least going to sit overnight. It supposed to rain here tomorrow, so it may even be 48 hours. The good news is it will be relatively cool as well. Once I get back to it, can I just tack rag it and start laying down color again or do I need to hit it with a DA?

Hey, sorry to hear about that... with HOK you need it to leave little strings when you touch it (like pulling gum off your shoe) and that lets you know its time for the next coat. So I would definately hit it with a scothbrite pad (grey or red) and knock the shine off of it....
then start laying on the top-coat.....

    Good luck

Yeah, I figured I would at least need to scuff it. I just needed some re***urance! I guess worst case scenario, I could re-seal it. But I'd rather not pile on the layers more than necessary. I'm already going to have to lay down a little more color than I had planned. Thanks for that!

No prob...I would only start over and lay down more sealer if you where going with something transparent.....like this one time I shot some red over a partially sealed panel....the red covered it as good as watered down ketchup.

I definately stored that one in the memory bank. And it made me hate wide-body plastic imports even more:rolleyes:

Well, sorta outside. A makeshift booth using 6 mil plastic sheeting and PVC pipe. I love the HoK stuff. It's worked out pretty well for me...

This was before the wetsand, buff, and polish (so ignore the orange peel!) I just need to invest in some nicer guns now.

ok,,you said you started spraying the base coat and had to stop..not anywheres near the candy yet ,right?,,well,in that case,,scuff the base, slap yer girlfriend on the ***,then RESHOOT the base,,then hit it with the candy...

if it ever happens when you ARE into the candy,,and you have to stop,,shoot it with intercoat clear(or dbc 500),,so when you come back all your scuffing on is the intercoat ,,not the actuall candy,.,.and slap your girlfriend on the *** again for us,..:D

SamF has got it right. Just scuff the existing base, clean it, and reshoot the base to cover. Then proceed. You can even just use a scotchbite pad to scuff it down...a DA may be too aggressive, and cut into your sealer...you don't want to do that, you'll have to reseal.

Yeah, the DA was only if I needed to start over, which obviously I don't want to do! :D I'm just doing the glamour metallic base and UC35 clear. So I should be good.

Thanks a ton guys. I've got a handful of gray scotchbrites (the between finishing coats kind) ready to scuff!
