What kind of seats did the majority of the G***ers in the 60's run?? Altered, CA, GA, Stocker, most cl***es? Post pics or any info! stewed!
If i ever was to build a G***ER,,i would use lowback fibergl*** buckets covered in the stock black vinyl covers that come with them,,.,, ...but i dont have any plans to build a G***ER,or a RAT ROD or a BELLFOLLOWER custom or a chopper or BOBBER or what ever is the trend of the week,,,.... ,,but,,thats what i would use,,, NOT that there's anything WRONG with choppers bobbers,g***ers or other previuosly mentioned kustom kulture tag names..,,i love them,,,but i hate the fact that everything is getting/is wattered down to the m***es
My 55 Sedan has early triumph bucket seats. They are possibly from a mid-fifties roadster. The guy that built the car put them in in 1968. I have also seen MG seats used. Real racers had the low-back fibergl*** buckets usually with a diamond-tuft pattern. These were simillar to the seats in the Two-Lane Blacktop 55. Check out the Limeworks web site, He is selling the fibergl*** seats with covers.
Jazz makes some nice plastic low back seats... I like those better than the gl*** ones, but have the same look. They come with nice covers too.
I've heard of early volkswagen beetle seats being used. I'm putting Dodge A-100 van buckets in my '57 wagon g***er, on aluminum seat risers--same as the early '60s Mopar Superstocks used. These are pretty light weight, have adjusters to slide the seats front and back (the Super Stocks left the adjusters off and just bolted them to the seat risers), and most importantly the seat foams and covers are available new. I plan on driving the car a lot, as well as racing it, and can't see sitting in a fibergl*** bucket seat all the way up to Ohio for Power Tour, then on Power Tour, and then back home to GA. The car is going to be primative enough without killing my *** and kidneys. -Brad
well, thats good that you laughed,,because 97.8% of the people on this big ***y board do not get my humor, hahahaaa or shall i say "muahahahaaa"
If only 2.2-percent of the people on this board get your humor, you aren't funny. Muahblablahblah. -Brad
Here's a link to my website that has pics of my g***er, go to pictures and scroll to the bottom. www.mrchevynut.com I went back and looked myself, well, ther's almost a picture of the seat.
If you end up copying a set of seats from the 60's (68) MOPAR Superstock car you can easily find some by finding a 1968 thru 72 Jeep set. They are the exact same seats by the same company. You'll just need the aluminum seat stands. They are currently being made again. slhetal
We had a set of B-25 seats in ours. BUt they weren't bought off ebay, they came from the air force surplus sales in the 60's. ONe of them must have been the navigators seat because it swiveled.
Van seats like the A100s, any small foreign buckets, (I remember seeing some used that were like fabric slings over a frame - maybe Fiat or something - not very crash worthy) and the small fibergl*** buckets, usually mounted on a tubing frame with upholstery that snapped on were everywhere.
My 55 Ford has a bomber seat in it. Pretty sure it used to have one on p***enger side also, the aluminum 'stand' is still there and a hole in the Roll bar where it was bolted to. I have a pair of van seats that I might use and I also have a pair of buckets covered with vinyl metallic upholstery. Plus one of those high back fibergl***/plastic seats with the diamond style cover. Decisions, decisions. Lol.
In my 56 Chevrolet Bracket Car from the late 70's, I installed some Fiat, tilt forward bucket seats; they did't even have adjustable tracks. Looked a little similar to the VW seats posted prior, only smaller. I got them out of a foreign car wrecking yard, and don't even know the model Fiat they came out of. Black naugahyde in beautiful shape (re-done???), and they literally got lost in the interior because they were so small. But, they worked fine, and did't weigh hardly anything. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
I wonder if those little flimsy seats would even hold up the pot gutted lard ***es that seem to be the trend now? A diet would remove more weight than a lightweight seat!
I guy in my neighborhood built an early Chevy II years ago. His brother worked at a local bowling alley. Two orange seats went out the back door. They pulled the legs off, made some brackets and bolted them in. I was looking at doing the same thing in my '40. But ended up finding a nice stock seat at a swap meet. And it's soooo comfortable.
I remember a diy article in the little pages back in the 60s showing how to make seats using a shopping cart frame. wrapped in webbing. might be shady getting the shopping cart !
I was at a auction once. there where two shopping carts in with a huge pile of s****. My wife wanted them. She asked the guy who bought the s**** heap about them, He gave them to her. Debbie came up to where I was and happily exclaimed I got those shopping carts. I stated what are you going to do now ? Take up the occupation of being a bag lady? Everyone laughed except her and I got the look. Then some guy that had a steel plate in his head took to following her like a puppy dog. Debbie still has her shopping carts.
Back in the early 60's I had 62 Corvair buckets in my 56 g***er. They worked great for a period correct g***er. We never had these fibergl*** racing seats like you see in all the g***ers they are building today.
