    Hey,
I've been assigned to find "traditional" Blue Oval lowriders, with laces and slammed either bags or hyrdos, for one of the books I shoot for. I might have a line on a couple but can you guys help me out here? I've been living on "Planet GM" for too long to know anything else...LOL!

For reasons that I'm not quite sure of, Fords have never been popular with the Lowrider crowd. I saw a pic of a '79 'Bird Lowrider on eBay awhile back, but that's one of few I've ever seen.

    Anyone know why?

well,,beside the fact that Mexicans two favorite hollidays being Cinco De Mayo and september 1st(when the new chevrolets used to come out)...

back in the old days,,fords where mostly precieved as hotrod/high performance cars,,prior to the 55 chevy, chevys had a reputation as working class/dad,type of rides,,that were passed down to younger family member drivers of the time,,,,

..i cant put a finger on it,,but its just the way it is and will probably always be,,chevys make the best lowriders and fords make the best hot rods...

i guess the same reason a 32 ford will always be the "ultimate" hot rod ,,where a 32 chevy ,most would care less about,,and a 64 impala is the hierarchy of lowriderness and you almost never see a 64 galaxy done up as a lowrider,,,

Here's the closest thing I've ever seen to a Ford "bomb" style lowrider.

I've also seen the occasional Bellflower style 63-64 Ford Galaxie and a few lowrider style late 70's Thunderbirds and Lincolns, but that's about it.

  11. These two just sold in the H.A.M.B. classifieds.

I used to cruise a 76 couger on trus and 5.20s. The 78 tbird lays flat when its juiced. The early 80s lincolns also used. Are you looking for ideas or pictures you can use? I have a bunch of early 80s lowrider mags in the garage. 60s galaxies were also used. A buddy of mine had a lifted grand torino for awhile back in the 80s now that I think about it. The trucks were too hard to lower. Maybe the front suspension had something to do with it.

You'll just have to pick up a Low Rider magazine and look for web sites.
They really like those big late model Lincolns and T-Birds I think!

My 62 Bird. No laces, but it's a Ford and it's a traditional low. The unibody will be laid out on the asphalt in about a month.

  23. Ya see, us Ford guys would rather save our hard earned bux than waste them on stupid looking wheels and cut up suspension. Chevys are cheap and nobody cares when you butcher one up for a dump lowrider....now who would cut up a perfectly good ford.

Actually, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that all the best looking fords were leaf spring rears (64 and back) and Chevy had rear coils forever...they were much easier to airgbag and stuff.

here's my ranchero. . . I also did a 68 LTD once but no pics are digital of that one.. . I guess I just got tired of impalas.

I've owned both fords and chevys . . .chevy's and gm cars in general are just more "decorative" than fords. Little things like shift knobs, steering wheels, interior trim, etc.. so maybe that's why they appeal to the lowriders. . also people are kinda like sheep.

When I cruise lowrider shows people trip on my car for being a ford and for being nostalgic for an era that they mostly had forgotton . . . life before impalas with 100 spoke daytons became the belly button car of the lowrider scene. The old guys seem to get it. . the young guys probably think i'm dumb.

Thanks from my end, guys..:) That Galaxie, the 'Liner, Lincoln and all others are cool to the max! Ohio doesn't have a lowrider scene (that I'm aware of), and I've only seen 'em at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit.. All were Chevies or boat tail Rivs.. After reading about all 'em Hot Rod in the mid '70s, I took a trip to California in the '80s and really looked forward to seeing lowriders up the azz around San Berdoo, El Monte and such. The ONLY one I saw was a halfassed done '64 Chevy.....no paint, no accessories, nor much of anything I'd hoped to see.
