I just discovered the origional friewall tag on my '47, but it's painted over - most likely lacquer. I can s**** it off with my finger nail but am afraid I will also scratch off the origional paint below it.

Anyone got some good tips for removing the unwanted layer of paint???

  2. I had good luck cleaning up an old moon column drop with the old tag on it.It was covered in paint and I didn't want to wreck the tag.
I sprayed some paint stripper on a rag and then wiped the part, it took a little time, but I was able to clean it up nicely without taking any printing off the tag. Give it a try.

Soak it in Pine-Sol... but not too long.
