Bought my wife a '51 chevrolet hardtop last summer. It's in decent shape and runs pretty good and while the previous owner did a lot of things right, he missed on a lot of the details.

One area of concern was the engine compartment. I've spent the last couple of weeks between web page builds to tear into this thing... Painted fender wells, firewall, radiator, etc... It's cleaning up pretty nice and I've been really pleased with most of the Eastwood products I've used - "under hood black" is the shit and I really liked their new Rust Encapsulator product.

A special thanks to "Shifts" for helping me rebuild my first 350TH and for helping me figure out all of my tranny details, to "thirdyfivepickup" for hooking me up with the intake and dizzy, and to Root for gettin me some valve covers (not pictured).

Ryan...the underhood area is cleaning up nicely! [IMG]

Do you know what master cylinder and brake booster wer used on that car?

    Also, what pedal assembly?

Just curious, as I'm about to attempt an S10 pedal and booster install in my 49!

I believe this is an after market job... It is a TIGHT fit between valve cover and driver's side fresh air tube. I'd actually like to do something else, but this setup will work for now.

As for the HAMB SCAM, I believe it will be the second weekend of April.

  6. That looks great!...but--wait! Is that a billet water pump? [IMG] [IMG]

    Oh, I know---it's a mock-up piece....yea, that's the ticket! [IMG]

Thanks...that booster looks awfull small (diameter) I was just wondering if it was a Chevette or maybe a Vega/Monza piece or something along those lines.

I have the stock air tubes in place and plan to leave 'em.

You're making me SERIOUSLY consider spraying my engine compartment before I drop the new motor in, though...I WAS just gonna leave it dirty, rusty mint green!!

Hmmmm...maybe TRUNK PAINT...... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Fat, do you have a passenger side fresh air tube? I ditched the deluxe heater on that side and want to replace it with another tube, but can't find one ANYWHERE for the passenger side... Beginning to wonder if they ever made em...

I'll go out and figure what the m/c and booster are off of...

Not the best photo, but this is what MY underhood area looks like!

You can see the passenger's side air duct fairly well. It's solid, but it's also a part of my new battery tray (not pictured here), too!

    Maybe Root's will work!

I don't think my car has Deluxe heating, but I don't really know, either!

There was a heater control valve up on the firewall (gone now) and I think the core is under the seat. There's a big switching unit on the far left side of the dash, attatched below with a bunch of cables run to it. There's also a blower fan and ducts under the dash (on the inside of the passenger's side firewall, really) with outlets for a defroster.

If there's any little parts ya need, let me know. If I don't need it (not planning on running a heater), you can have it.

But I DO need the underhood air ducts...sorry! [IMG] [IMG]

Mine has the core in the cabin area. The underhood ducts are just round tubing. I'll throw em in with that other deal we talked about. If ya don't need it....trash it.

you thought about adapting a left side tube ryan? it comes pretty close, just a little sheetmetal work to fit it to the box under the battery tray...just gotta cut and re weld the brackets. to make it fit.

Fat, you have the deluxe heater... That big box on the passenger side is your heater core. You can't run that with a SBC as it hits your header...

As for my headers, those are sandersons made for 49 ta 54s... It clears perfect. The previous owner had early 80s camaro manifolds that just barely cleared the steering box. If you want em, you can have em...

Ryan that is bitchin. Gives me motivation to start working on mine again. Those headers are very nice I put em on mine and they fit great. What are you going to do for suspension? You got a picture of the whole car?

Suspension is all stock right now. I am most likely gonna do dropped uprights and springs in the front this summer along with a Walton spring kit out back. I want to get it as low as I can without cutting the floor.

The car looks great. I absolutly love black wheels with white walls. My personal favorite.
I hear you on not cuttin the floor. However my trunk floor was in not so good shape and I cut it out. I was gonna go balls out and notch the shit out of the frame and cut the driveshaft tunnel and all that but When I started looking at how low you can get with out all that I changed my mind. I am leaning toward using leafs with all the leafs removed except the main leaf and running an air bag set up for the rear only. For the fronts I was thinking like you and doig the dropped uprights thing but I cant decide if it is worth the money to do that and upgrade to discs and all new bushings or should I just go with an aftermarket clip.
Keep us posted on the progress man I really like it.
Here is a couple pics of mine after I took the stock rear out. I set the car on the ground just for fun.

i think i've got a pair of early 80s camaro headers to be honest, but i appreciate the hell out of the offer. got em a while back and they turned out to not work so well in my pontiac the way i've done things. i did find out that 70 chevelle full length headers will work alright with a slight tube detour! what did those headers set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Ryan did you have to relocate the E-brake or does it clear the exhaust?

Ryan, nice job with the install. Those Sanderson headers make the install so much easier.. I wonder if a tube from a 53/54 chevy would fit?. they are a clean tube for the fresh air.
