am i in the wrong? heres the story.
i know this guy who has a 55 chevy 4 door and its been sitting in the alley for over a year. the windows are busted out,he cut out the drive shaft tunnel so he could lower it then never covered it, the motor is blown so he took everything off of it and just left it in the car, etc,etc... point is,this guy wont sell it to me and he will never fix it before it falls completely apart. he thrashed this car when he did drive it now he neglects it. it sits outside no windows in the elements of nature and he dont care it seems like. mabey he thinks he wont be cool if he dosent have it anymore? i said i would give him a thousand bux for it as is and he wont sell it to me. wtf is wrong with people? anyway, thats it. mabey im just pissed cus i dont have a project and this would be an easy runner for me to fix.

he can paint it pink, fill it with manequins and plant roses in their asses.... its his car.

He doesn't want to sell? Move on... or show him enough money to change his mind.

He's probably on some forum now... "doesn't it piss you off when people think they are doing you a favor by wanting to buy your old cars?" :p:D

Yeah it pisses me off... almost as much as posts like these do. :)

  5. Rough morning there Mike? I agree, the guys don't wanna sell, suck it up and move on. There's lots more to be had for your $1,000. Maybe even something in better shape with 2 less doors.

    Here's what I got for $800:

thats the problem. everything in california is more expencive. you could get a bundle for that out here.

  7. Knowing the right widow really helped this time. :D She originally wanted $5,800 but her son helped her understand that adding up 30 year old receipts for a car that doesn't run anymore doesn't equal today's value.

    Thats perfect!
It sounds like hes doing you a favor and your just struck on that car. GM made millions of em. Find one that is for sale and not a 4 door.

  9. No shit! There are tons of cars around here that "are not for sale"...and tons of cars that are. Find another. I bet you could find some old GM 4 door something in a lot better shape for half the price...You just have to look

Keep looking and make freinds with the tow truck drivers, and if you can find a high school kid and pay him a finders fee. You would be supprized at what is in back yards of people are not car guys.

    Recent examples I know of...

71 Chevelle 2 door runs drives clean socal car original paint.. 2k
69 elcamino beat to hell but complete with discs-327 80$
60 starliner complete with all the crome no mtr/ trans 1500$

If your even remotely considering paying a grand for a 4 door with the windows busted out and the floor all fucked up i think you would be better spending that money on a shrink cause you need a little help. Either that or spend a little more and get some good drugs cause the shit your on aint nice to you.

think your right. mabey im just stuck on the car and its also local.

  18. hey, why not call the city, complain about the "junk" in the alley, they will haul it away and then you can glomb on to it from the impound yard when he doesnt show up to claim it? that just might work. at least it would end up in the hands of someone who cared about it. anyway i think a grand is a little steep for a hacked up 4 door , jmo. mike

That would really be a mean thing to do. Even if the current owner is neglecting it, he's probably got some kind of plans on his mind. The last thing this hobby needs is "car guys" sicking the authorities on fellow "car guys". It happens often enough when neighbors or business men decide to complain about derelict cars. Usually the cars have to be removed hastily to avoid a fine or court appearance. No time to sell it...the car ends up in the scrap crusher.

    Rethink that strategy!

WTF??? What's wrong here...nothing I see 'cept you want a turd car from a turd owner. Leave them both alone. Best idea I got for ya. Start with a wanted ad in our market place threads, then post in general what you're looking for on another thread and get good advice regarding strategies and values. It's a small world.

    FWIW.

Years ago I had a guy 10 houses up the street ask me about a '50s' Dodger I had siting on the side of the house. He'd stop and ask about every two months. I always told him no. Never had any plans for it myself, it was more or less just something that I had sitting there. Well this went on for about 3 years. He would always stop whenever he saw me outside. We would shoot the shit for about 15 minutes after I would tell him "it's still not for sale."

Long story short, I finally said yes one day. He couldn't believe it! He gave 1/2 in cash right then and the other 1/2 the next day. I moved about a year later and it looked like he was about to get it on the road. More than I ever would have gotten around to.

Moral is: Be persistant but friendly. You never know when an expected "no" may become a "yes".

Like My pops always said "You can polish the hell out of it, but you'll never polish the fourth door off.

Dont get me wrong, Ive seen some sick more doors in my time, But its sounds like youd be better off holdin out for somthin else worth the price.

    Just my 2 cents

  29. hey john56h, it was meant to be a tongue in cheek response. i guess i should been a little more clear.oh well. anyway, i still think a "G" is a little too much as there are still a good number of 50's 4 doors out there on the cheap if you look hard enuf. mike

What elements exist in Torrance? Vandalism? It looks like the current owner has already taken care of that himself.

If you want to spend a grand for a tri-five that is out in the elements, I've got a 56 2dr hardtop that I'm itching to get out of my yard. No floors, no glass, rust holes in the roof, but you won't have to "buff" the fourth door off of it.
