http://slantsix.org/ is a great resource for info on the leaning tower of power. They have a really good forum, too. Check out http://www.allpar.com/slant6.html too. Words of advice... building a slant is not a cheap engine. Parts are hard to find. You would be better off getting a doner from a later model car, like a 70 or so dart... If you have a 170 now and you want to step up to the 225, the 225 is about 2 inches taller - not allot, unless you want to retain the throttle rod. Don't get an engine from anything newer than 72 or so... they really ruined the slant 6 with all the smog ****. Clifford Performance is a great source for hop up parts. Schnider and Crower make cams for a slant. For hard to find trim parts check http://www.laysons.com.. they are good, but really expensive. If you decide to go for it - Cool! - Joe sorry about the hijack lindross.
JOE; was that pic taken up at the Spring Fling? Also, do you ever get out the the MoPaR club hangout (the "slab") down at Diane st. and Clairmont Mesa blvd?
Getting those little finishing touches done to the Krylon car. It's those little details that can really make the difference. We're just about ready for the World of Wheels in Indy. Thanks Cliff for getting that tank done so quickly and thanks to Wally for the fuel line fix and grill cleaning and painting. The Bubba's crew is great while you're at your normal 8-5.
LOOKS LIKE THE "ELF" NIGHT CREW GOT SOME WORK DONE LAST NIGHT. I WILL DIG THE AIR CLEANER UP TODAY SOMETIME.
Looks sweet Lindross... You forgot to mention the 400+ pounds you had ridding in the car when the road suddenly changed elevation.
It was terrific to be able to drive the Krylon car again in it's nearly finished state. We need a day of good carberator tuning and we're ready for the hot rodding season. The ol gal shined up super at the World of Wheels in Indy this past weekend.
Looks good! Ya know.... I shot photos of that thing at quite a few shows in the past. Thanks to Scoob's garage party, I can finally say "I know that guy. He's a.... [fill in the blank as needed]"
Thanks! Yeah, scoobs garage party was a neat gathering and had it been dry we would have drove it there. I know exactly how to fill in that blank. He's a... [extremely blessed and privilaged fellow to have the automotive connections he has]
Well, we put the "official" stamp of approval on the car this past weekend. Got the carb tuned in good with a quick change of the pump spring. We wired up the electronic ignition for the slanty set the timing and took a 60 mile test drive around the 465 loop. She's hot this year fo sho! Purs like a kitten and drives like a dream. Brought the car back in, changed the oil/filter, looked at the plugs and checked the valves and she's good to go for the season. p.s. I haven't forgotten ya San Diego Joe, we'll get that video up here soon so you can hear her pur. That little straight pipe off the stock exhaust manifold sounds killer, but not over powering while driving.
Great to see a project fine tuned. We built this car a few years ago and have driven it a ton. I drove it to the Hundred Car Pile up in the rain three years ago. The broken transmission was the reasomn for pulling the engine and it was "pandoras box" from there. After the trans was rebuilt , a inspectyion of the engine showed some issues and we tore it down, installed a new comp cam kit with new 060 Ross pistons. The rear axle was way too high geared and we changed the gear to a 3:73 ( wow what a change). The electronic ignition and the carb sec spring was icing on the cake . Sounds really good and will turn some rpm now !!! Wishing for a no rain summer
The story of the Krylon Special continues. Had a great hot rod season with it last year with minimal troubles (had some trannsmission issues to iron out) and we're ready for 08. So, the Dodge has more dodge this year. What do you think of our new shoes this year? Dodge steelies (49-51) to tie more of the Dodge scheme together. You can only hear "Is that a "T" so many times. For the record, it's a 1918 Dodge roadster. We're really really pleased with the subtle change it made to the car.
Looks great Scott! I like the steel wheels much better than the wires. Your Dad told me about the calender shoot. Glad to hear it. See you soon.
I LOVE this car !!!!! Yeah that was me who posted your stuff on that Slant Six forum , hope you don't mind but I think they needed some exitment over there !
No problem at all. I'm sure they get a kick seeing a little Slant being used in a hot rod application.
We've considered headers but they would have to be modified as our steering box is in the way. We're also considering a set of Dutra Duels.
