The "young" skateboarding scene is polluted with these "tuffxcore" Bam Margera wannabes now.

    Ah...but I had a good time as a kid with Wal-Mart boards.

Rusk - last I heard no one has hit the top yet on tha 3/4 pipe, has that changed? It WILL happen I have seen lots get close, real close and that was frontside :0

Cab - its a little late but those were some great runs at Cholo's, that contest looked like a blast. See you at the Pro-tec Pool party we are coming down for that..

Skateboarding was my life when I was 12-16, then I broke my leg and got a knee injury... Started mountainbiking as part of getting my leg good again, and got stuck with that! :) Still both riding my bike and board, but not as often as I would like to. Think I will get out more this summer!! :) Not as good on the board as I was, but planning on getting better!!! :D

I have also noticed the amount of skaters here at the HAMB, but again, heres a lot of crazy people!!!!
    ;)
Got my first rod projekt at the age of 22, (28 now..) but has worked with old cars since I was 18 (Old Volvo Amazones) and been interested in hotrods since i was about 9 or ten I think! :p

  5. I don't if it's been done BS, but even close FS is gnarly! There have been so many rippers there lately...it wouldn't suprise me if Drehobl or Speyer did it. Some of the local kids are blowin' minds...there's a kid who rides for Creature that throws down switch FS grinds to revert in the deep bowl....nuts.

Phil...I knew there was a reason I liked you! :D

I got my first board in 84 in the 4th grade, skated a lot up untill about 4 years ago, infact I havent even skated around the new neighborhood since I moved to austin. I should prolly' get my board back out since I cant seem to build a running vehicle lately. Thanks for inspiration guys.

Growing up in Huntington Beach, pretty much everyone was a surfer and a skateboarder. I was both. Not such a good surfer, even though I was on the surf team at my high school. I was a much better skateboarder. That translated to snowboarding in 1988. In 1991 I literally sat down and stared at myself in the mirror trying to decide to go pro or stick with design. Soon after, fucked up knees and a chipped tailbone while shooting a TV commercial decided for me.

Nowadays I just rock the longboard and pump the transitions at the skatepark.

it reminds me ALOT of the smaller version of "PIPELINE" (less the full pipe)
...i cant belive how bitchin its going to be,,,,

i HOPE when i go i do not look like one of those "old guys" that used to come to pipeline when i was a young whippersnapper! hahaha,,,they were easy to spot with there short hangten(tm) shorts, knee high striped tube socks and skinny boards,,hahaha

I loved rip city when I was in grade school...I grew up in Westchester by the airport and that was the only "real" skateshop me and my friends knew of. None of us were all that great but we skated everywhere anytime we weren't in school. Of course Santa Monica was just a little drive up Lincoln Blvd, but when you're little it seemed so far away. Then we got bus passes:D I collected everything Dogtown and Santa Cruz.

  14. Come on now, guys........:D
This is no more on topic ,than about any O/T I have heard of lately.....
A post about music and hotrods was recently considered off topic also bikes and hotrods, shot down....=off topic......
    I just couldnt resist!
I had to speak up for the rest of us 96.3 percent of hotrodders, who skateboarded for one week when we were 12 and forgot it as soon as we got a car! You skaters just never grew up...
OK ,let the ass chewin begin.....

This is not so o/t...I gave away the engine/trans out of the '55 Pontiac to a HAMB member for free thru the classifieds. He was trying his hand at pinstriping and brought this deck along to show his gratitude. I was pretty moved...at 41 I hadn't touched my boards in a long while. I let this hang in place for awhile and then just couldn't take it. Off to the skate shop and I have been 3-4 times minimum a week since. Got the guys at work back into it and the owner even poured us new asphalt rolls in addition to the new paving out behind the shop. Now at 45 I am the biggest kid in the neighborhood :) and I refuse to give it up again, f' the bad back. Got this remote control Powerboard 2 years ago and it's huge fun. Funny asshole at the shop said "careful with those brakes, don't work very well". So I get home pull it out and off down the hill, hell yeah!!! let's try the brakes. Pavement came fast. Ugly moment man. I'm bleeding and burnt and trying to explain to my wife when she gets home from work just how bitchin this thing is. I think she's just pissed cause I got her drunk enough one evening to try and she broke a nail. Damn good break though, damn near pulled it out. Now my granddaughters sit on it and run the other kids down. God love them :)

    another reason this place RULES!!!

I was Fortunate to have a mini ramp built in my backyard at eight years old. Skateboarding in San Jose during the mid 80's was a huge part of growing up.If this picture works, some decks salvaged from my childhood.

Zman, how far off I95/ I40 is that bowl? I need to hit it on my next trip to Wilmington!:D Looks well built. We have a good wooden bowl going up here in the sticks. 6 1/2' shallow with a waterfall into deep 9'. I'll try to post a pic.

I still have my Tony Alva board from the late 70's. I skated until I moved west and there were no places to skate in Dunsmuir Ca. My dad wouldn't spring for a ramp either. I miss those days. I did get the chance to skate at Apple skate park in Ohio, and in true skater punk fashion, snuck in to do it!

About 20 miles west from where the intersect, it's about the same dimensions with no waterfall.... I'll be skating the indoor bowl tonight... smaller but warm... :D

Yep, you got that right. I saw absoutely no use for school (just a review of the first 8 grades) nor the in crowd after 8th grade. I never skated but put my total focus toward cars and auto racing. Other than my friends, family and pets, I have no interest in anything else.

Im 25 soon to be 26 in a couple of weeks and have been skating since I was 10. Its hard to believe that I picked up a deck almost 16 years ago.

My roommate even owns a skateboard shop and has for about 10 years. I get to go to all the inside industry parties :).

Oh, and lets not forget bmx and street stunt!
