    Pete:

I have a '60 F100 with a Y-Block but it looks like dump right now. Dressed up right, they look keen.

    Check out this site. http://www.ford-y-block.com/yblockpage.htm

Great info. There's plenty o' posts on here about Y-blocks with one very wise gent that always responds. Can't remember his name but he's a fountain of knowledge. Do a search and you'll soon find out who I'm talking about.

Here's a few pics. Try to guess which one is mine.:)

  4. Paul,

You need to post pics of the whole car. (I know, hijacking the thread...) I keep meaning to ask you to do it over on the Y Blocks Forever forum & keep forgetting. It looks sweet, judging by your avatar. :)

And there he is! Homespun, I've learned a good deal from your posts. I haven't torn into mine yet, but when I do, you can be sure I'll reference your posts.

    Thanks in advance.

Im sorry no pictures that i can post but Im running one in my 55vicky. Street rodder ran a series on the engine in 1999. John Mummert also has a informative site and adresses the unique points on the engine. I personally cant think of any other motor Id rather run in my 55, they have a sound all of their own

Here's the addy to John Mummert's Y-Block site and store:

    http://www.ford-y-block.com/index.html

John is the man to talk to about all things Y-Block. No one, including FoMoCo knows more about these mills.

Probably the reason you never see(n) them is because the folks in Flint were already replacing them with home grown S.B.C.s as early as 1956. The only Ford you ever saw back then Saginaw Street was a guy named Brad Burton. Had a real tough '57Customline 2-door that actually ran with the Chevies.

  11. DirtyT, thanks for the kind words. I'm no expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :D

John Mummert is a good source of parts & info; basic parts can be had from NAPA, Carquest, or most other parts stores; & there are a number of guys on the two main Y block forums who can answer almost anything.

Pete, once you lay your hands on it, post the details & we should be able to fill in some blanks. :) Y blocks are like any of the first gen OHVs; lots of good points, some weak areas, & bugs that were worked out in the later years. The oddity about the line, as opposed to most other engine families, is that they started out in '54, reached their peak in '57, & from '58-'62 were progressively detuned and considered the "base" or economy V-8. Most other engine families peaked at the end. The "Fairlane" series (SBF) replaced them in passenger cars beginning in '62, but they stayed in light/medium trucks until the end of '64.

    Chris:

I hope you take it as a compliment that I ganked your picture!

I love the color and the ignition wires. Where'd you get the wires?

  17. I do take that as a compliment :) I got that wire from Antique Auto here in Spokane, I think it's a buck a foot. There number is 509-535-7789.
    Thanks, Chris

  18. Heres an old pic of a car with an injected Y block in it...I flippin love this car. Does anyone have any more info or pics on this car?

You're talking about the picture right??
Don't tease me that way, it's cruel!!

I have a 292 in my Fairlane. The only pic I have is from when I first got it....and it had about 1/4" of grease/dirt/oil/various crap covering the whole thing.

If you can pick up a free Y-block, go for it! I'd love to find a freebie Y-block for a current street rod project.

I'm running the original 272 in my 56 F100. Added dual exhaust and a t-bird intake for the 4-barrel, and tweaked the ignition. Never been rebuilt, and still smokes the tires!
