I love Vdubs! If it hadn't have been for the cheap prices of them in the early 90's I might not have ever got into cars at all. Here was my first custom car ever, after this I got a 59 Chopped bug although it is in various parts right now. This is a really cool post- it is nice to see the examples that have been put on here.

  3. When I was in my teens and twenties VW's were all I drove. I had as many as 7 at a time. I've owned every model made except the Thing. And wanted one of them. I modified those rascals with everything possible at the time including multiple carbs (Solex', Webers, Holleys), blowers, cams and even once a Porsche drivetrain. My all time favorite though was running a Corvair Monza engine in a beetle with the 2 stage, 4 carb setup. Scariest machine I ever drove. Even with the trunk full of tools and concrete blocks it would do a wheelie at any speed in any gear. Just punch it and see the sky.

The other day I grabbed a VW magazine just for something different to look at. Looks like a lot of the buggy parts could be used for a hot rod, i.e. fuel tanks, steering columns, seats, etc.?? The stuff is pretty cheap too.
Like someone else said earlier, a well done car is a well done car, no matter what it is.
that light blue posted earlier that looks like a '36 is way cool...

  5. it looks like us vw people have made an invasion!!! it's really great to see all these examples on here. awesome stuff guys. i'm gonna go and work on my wife's '56 ragtop now.
    awesome...awesome...awesome...

Had a few VWs in my time. Just bought my Mom one as a matter of fact. Good cars, and can be a ton of fun...

VWs were how I got started on the whole car thing. I have posted pictures of my old flamed split windowed bug here before but I don't have those pictures on my new computer. I had a good time with that car and after it received it's turbo, it was quite a handful.
It is an easier jump from a german car designed in the '30s to a traditional Ford hot rod than most people think. I think old Mr. Porsche went to see Ford's set-up before starting the Stuttgart plant up.

Don't tell, but I've owned three of em.. [IMG] and with gas prices sky-rocketing, I might have to keep my eyes pealed for #4 [IMG] Fun Lil ******s..

Gas prices sky-rocketing???!?!?!? Are you having a laugh?!?!? US is one of the cheapest places to buy petrol (or gas as you lot call it!) We pay around $6 dollars for 1 US Gallon (roughly converted) so think yourselves lucky!

Hotrodding is an expensive hobby over here, especially when you think about fuel-guzzling engines that we all love!!! (V8, big-blocks, Hemi's etc)

    Hey HankCash,
I'm ***uming that Hebmuller and Kubel on the other page is the real deal? I've never seen a well customized Heb before (don't get out much) Very cool. Someone needs to walk across the street and slam that Kubelwagen, maybe throw on some 4.5" polished alloys.

That satin black deal. Is that for real too? Sheesh

All these HAMBers with VWs? Who knew- it's the HAMB's dirty little secret.
Since we're doing True Confessions, I have one too. Vert like HankCash's. Bought it for a chick, ditched her, kept the car.
Not really my thing- was going to flip it, but agree that as long as gas prices are closing in on $2 a gallon it may hang around for a while.

Hello? We pay like, three times that over here in England!!! Count yourselves lucky and stop complaining!!!!

Come over and live in Englad for a month and you'll realise just how good life is in the US!

Our Treasurer has put another 8 pence on cigarretes, which means they are close to £5 GBP, which I suppose is about $8 for a pack of cigarettes, i mean, COME ON!!!!

Thats my whole point homie, WE DON'T LIVE THERE, WE HAVE'NT EXPERIENCED THE HIGH PRICES SO TO US THIS IS HIGH! Damn.....is it that hard to understand?

Now, back to the topic......This is a sweet little 60's style kustom bug out of Japan. Where I'm sure he too is pissed off about how much he has to pay for gas.....or petro as our UK friends like to call it.
