Hello all. I bought a 1952 styeline deluxe 4 door a month or so ago. With the orignal 216 and 3 on the tree. I havent gotten it running yet as its been too cold to work on, but I was wondering about swaping out the old torque tube and rearend for something that will handle the power of a mild 250 I will be putting together for it. Im sure its been brought up before, but I searched through the tech archive and while I read some great stuff, didn't see anything about putting a newer trans/drivline/rear in this type of car. As I said Im sure its here somewhere, I just cant seem to find it. I am thinking of using a 5 speed out of a s10 and thats why I was wondering if anybody here has any experiance with this swap, OR if there is a better (read cheaper ) swap for this car? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Do a search in ***les for chevy+rear (exactly like that). Here's one I found doing that search: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131156&highlight=chevy+rear ***Edit: I meant to add that I searched in the main forum, rather than the tech archives. Hope that helps. Bryan
I am using a s10 rear in my 48. It's no rocket ship but it's never let me down. I am running a 350 sbc. Be ware they come in 3 deffart widths 4x4 require HPO wheels(front wheel drive wheels. 4x4 and 2wd Blazers have heaver axels in them. STD 2wd s-10's are smaller. My self and few others all use the 2wd Blazer rear bigger axles and takes deeper wheels.
The rear out of a early 70's nova will work too...what you are looking for is around 60" hub to hub. I think a standard 2wd S10 will be too narrow.
I have a 66 Caprice with a 12 bolt at my folks, I will have to check maybe that one would work. I just ***umed it would be way to wide, maybe not? Wonder how hard it would be to switch from coil springs to leaf? I also checked out the build in your sig. Very cool! CR
I used a rear out of a '79 camaro in my '53 wagon. It fits perfectly. My mom's '50 hardtop has a nova rear in it. Where are you located north of Spokane?
