Getting ready to make the trek to Kalifornia for the 75 year Deuce Party. I have been looking for some 285/70/15 tires to go on the rear of the 5w, and am hitting a brick wall. Seems as if they are discontinued....
Anyone out there know of a source for some of these? Going on 10 inch rims, need about 30 inches tall.....going nuts trying to locate some.....Help!!!

  6. Tirerack.com Doesn't Have Them Listed, But Bfgoodrich Still Makes Them. If You're Looking For A Www, Coker Has Silvertowns (bfgoodrich) For $208 A Piece. They Are An Alliance Vendor Too.

I was looking for the BFG TA equivilants.....to the 285...an inch or so taller and about 2 inches wider tread than the standard 265.
    Thanks for the reply

These will be my backup tires if I strike out on the 285's. I just got back from the tire store, the Michelin's are about 8 inches of tread, about the same as Coker(for more $, plus shipping). The Michelins are a 6 ply tire, so I am a little concerned about the ride.....its pretty stiff as is.
Thanks to all for the response!:D

the 31" 6ply ride pretty good, just don'y max the air pressure. a friend runs these on his 33 coupe and loves them. i rummaged through my shop today, i found 1 pretty nice used 28570r15 radial t/a. it has about 70% tread. if someone out there has one more your in business. i also talked to bf goodrich, they say that size will no longer be made, it is a discontinued size. hope this may help.

    Try a LT 215/85R16 or LT 30x9.50R15 or 31x10.50R15

235-75R-15 are only about 28" tall

Finding tall narrow radial tires is becoming a real problem. Most of the tires made today are wide and fat..........."O" rings!

All the bias ply tire lovers are going to be suprised at what is no longer available in radial tires, when they decide to give up on Coker tires so they can go 90mph on the breezeway just to try and keep up with trafic (soccer moms in their suv's). :D

    Hi guys...

We got the notice a number of weeks ago that BFGoodrich was discontinuing the P285/70R15 Radial TA. We produce this P285/70R15 size in a wide whitewall in BFGoodrich Silvertown. We have been working up costs on production in the same mold in blackwall. I will come back to this thread in a few days to post the ETA. Alliance members will be able to purchase at the Alliance disount too.

I just went through the same problem finding 285/70R-15 BFG TA's ..I already had my 15" rims and had set the rearend, frame dimensions forthat size tire... I started July 06 hunting a pair...in Nov 06 ,found a pair made in June 06, in a dealers inventory...The way I understand from BFG,that may have been the last run..My local dealer talks to BFG and they have no indication when or if they will make any more,as he tells me...I had actually thought about a set of Hoosier Street Radials in a comparable size ,but they were twice the price!!

    Corky,
Thanks for the response. I noticed that the tread width on the 285 was just 8.6 inches....which seems quite a bit less than the BFG TA tires....I guess that I am looking for a performance look with the tires, not the old timey look(I built it in the late 60's, running big and littles and a 427 Ford)....Since BFG has dropped thier line, would this be a market for you to look into?...seems like it was a popular size.
Also, I am running your Firestone dirt track, big and littles on another Flathead powered car and have had good results with them(though they required about 8 oz of weight on one of the rears to balance out???).....expensive, but worth the look!(I know, I know....a small market....cost more)
Thanks for your commitment to make our Hot Rods more fun:cool: !!!

With either tire dont be afraid to go REALY LOW on air pressure(in the teens or 20's) to get even treadwear and good ride on a light car. Remember these tires were designed to carry a full size suv.

    Hey everyone,

We should have the 285/70R15 BFGoodrich Silvetown blackwall radial by late March or the first of April. We are taking backorders now. The tire is 30.75" in diameter, with a cross section of 11.5" and a tread width of 8.60". It has a UTQG rating of 540 B B. If you are interested please call us and place a backorder.

    H.A.M.B Alliance member discounts apply.

    Thanks,

    Jess

  25. Have a friend with a pair of 315/70/15 BFG Radial Sport Truck T/A's, also out of production and very hard to find. His are new and I think never mounted. A little taller at 32 1/4" and almost 12 1/2" wide at the sidewall. These are similar to the 345/55/16's and 345/55/17's that BFG also made and discontinued. On that note, I have 3 NOS 345/55/17's for sale.

    Thanks,
    Steve
