Hi All, what might be the best way to prerp the surface of say, a trunk lid that is paintless, has a coat of brown rust, but is not rusted out. Should I sand it out or have it blasted, want to prime it and fix dents/dings afterwards. Thanx in advance

im a big fan of using ricecakes i know 3m makes them im not to sure if anyone else does. they take off paint, rust, ect. without warping the panel as long as you dont leave in the same area for to long also alot quicker than sanding and cheaper then sandblasting wire wheels work well also.

  3. I'd fix the dents and dings first, then blast it, then primer it with epoxy primer. If there's some slight waves that show up after primering it, you can use good quality filler over the epoxy primer (after scuffing the epoxy primer for good adhesion).

If you primer it first, then do hammer and dolly work, then you'll just mess up the primer and have to sand and reprime it.
