I've posted this pic a million times, but here's my '53. It has a molded '53 surround and a 52 DeSoto grille. I don't have it fit in there very well, I'm going to rework the end teeth when I go through the car next time.

  5. My old 49 Meteor (Canadian ford). Removed the center divider merc type bar and used a 50 merc grille bolted together in the center. Meteor used a stainless merc style grille surround in 49, changed to regular painted steel in 50. Used merc style grille and center section, but grille was 4 bars shorter than a Merc. Pat.

  6. Hey thats a sweeet picture you have there, are you single?

I vote for making your own grill. Graft stuff together and be creative. I like a stock 49 50 grill. But I'm a ****.

    Thanks for the pics folks!

    Road Rat Eddie,

When you flip the bumper does it also lower it?

    Jason,

Is that mesquite chips on your grill?

Geez, it's been awhile but i'm pretty sure it does a coupla inches....The bumper brackets had to be cut and flipped sides and re-welded to get everything lined up again correctly

It's not often that I see a custom grill on a 49-50 ford shoebox that is an improvement over the original.

One of the cleanest looking shoebox grills I've seen
was a 57 desoto top grill bar narrowed to fit in the opening-

(It was on my buddies '50, but he had a 51 grill surround)

Hadn't really seen it done before, thought it looked good-

I really love the 49s and 50's with stock grilles, as well as tail lights. If mine wasn't a 51, i wouldn't even be asking. Yours look really clean.

Mine's a '51 too, so this is a custom grille!

Here's a couple more, the first one belongs to one of my club members. The other two i believe are HAMBers cars but I saved them before I started saving stuff with their handles. Enjoy, and if one of these cars is yours, let us know, since they're the dog's bullocks!
