The response to the display and to Back Seat Betty was quite overwhelming at the World of Wheels. I am pleased! Here are a few more pics...

You don’t know how many people wanted to buy the V8-60...

I painted my grandfather’s name on the ‘36 door. Mom and Dad thought that was pretty cool...

Believe it or not, we were not the last ones out of the building!

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by and especially for everyone who volunteered their time on this project.

  2. Chad, I gotta hand it to you and everyone that worked on that display. I didn't make it to the show, but from the photos, that's the best looking display I've ever seen - it's just fantastic!! Everyone should be very proud of themselves.

You know what this means? You guys have to top yourselves next year..

Yeah, we won the display award. It was definitely a labor of love.

I designed the display, including the War Bonds wall and had lots of help to make it a reality. Mr and Mrs Hellfish (;) ) did most of the painting on the war bonds wall and got some help from Rocco's mom Deb and myself. I painted both logos with some help from my wife and Rocco. All the guys at the shop helped with the construction here and there, which was spearheaded by Rocco's Dad, Ed. He engineered the structure and was the foreman for it all. It comes apart into neat 4x9' sections that are light and easy to transport. I did all of the post paint weathering. Let me tell you, it is a ***** to sand down and weather something you have been painting for 4 days.

The tin came from my grandma's neighbor's barn in Indiana. We just turned it inside out for our purposes. The stuff strewn about came from my house, the shop, and some of the Blacktop Baron's. Lots of people volunteered their time to get it all there and get it all back home. We started setting up on Wednesday. It wasn't bad to set up at all. It was far more time making the trips with the trailers. Olemuleskinner and I drove the '36s to the show and my Dad drove them both home. Taking it down was alot harder cause we were short 3 or 4 people. So there was some carnage, but nothing I can't repair. I got home about 3am.

It was a ton of work, and without the help and support of alot of friends and family, it simply would not have been possible! So thank you to everyone who had a hand in it!!

Oh yeah, how long did it take? 5 weeks of Saturdays and Sundays, plus some nights during the week here and there. Not counting all the preliminary design, gathering of materials, etc, etc.

You need to bring that to the PileUp this fall and set it up in the pavillion. Couldn't make the show, but would like to see it at the PileUp.

    Very cool.

The attention to detail is evident and the whole display really brings together all of the things we love. You guys should be proud of the effort and result.

Coolest garage display I've ever seen. Well deserved recognition. NOW, you just need to take it to other shows so more folks can see it in person and apprecaite it.;) :D

We would have to rent a semi for any road trips. Yikes! :D

It might show up at the Goodguys Route 66 show in more of a booth capacity.

  24. Chad,

Congratulations to you, Kevin and all those that helped on that display! It was the best display I have ever seen at this show in 30 odd years of attending. I was really, really impressed with it when I saw it on set-up night while helping Kevin push the silver "A" over to it from the dock door. Outstanding presentation and it should really help your business and inspire people to build like you guys do.

I came over to see you guys during the show a few times but, never got to see ya's. I did talk with "Miss Hop Up" though.

I sure wish I had known about the build, I have been off line for so long and haven't been able to stop by on Thursday nights. I sure would have loved to have helped on that project.

Congrats to you all over at HRC&C

Awesome pics thanks for sharing! That silver model A looks sweet you would'nt happen to have anymore interior shots would ya, is that a B-17 control yoke being used for a steering wheel? Very cool! I love aircraft inspired hot rods! Thanks again! Chad VanHook

  30. I still think you should bring it to the Hunnert. If you can fit it on the stage it it would re-invent the term "Garage Band".One of the coolest displays I've seen.
