Not knocking the car as I'm sure the craftmanship is amazing but I think the real point is Cole Foster or Rick Dore wouldn't build that car.
I'm NOT surprised. I figured a car of this style(?) would win. There must've been 20 somewhat lookalike variations of this car. NOTHING distinctive or unique at all. But the wheels are nice.............NOT. I really enjoy when a car like this rolls up at a cruise spot and the crowd goes to the lesser $$ car that has more style/character/personallity/soul. And the owner's just pissed and whiney the rest of the night
It may not be your taste..but why are you guys ball bustin..its called respect for another mans work..have it..or shut it...I was there for the whole weekend..many friends of mine were there being judged...many of us don't know what it takes to build something of that caliber...you don't like it...so what..don't bad mouth it....that thing, just as the other cars goin for the awards were unbelievealby detailed..and we can all take SOMETHING from them....even if its one detail...so what they may not be driven..its not yours...DRIVE YOURS, BUILD YOURS, whatever...its not your money spent...so stop worrying about how others spend theirs...
I can only speak for myself ,But I am sick of this style car... it looks like one of those Coast to Coast "kit-smoothsters" BRING BACK TRADITION-Kill the "Porsche-R-izing" of any more old cars......
' MAybe the owner does have a BIG CHECKBOOK..but the fabricators are just that..FABRICATORS....maybe they're just like you and I..and while the shop I work at had acouple cars there, I had nothing to do with any of the AMBR cars other than one being a good friends..and no thats not it..OH, and for the record..I work at Rolling Bones...
Oh, don't get me wrong. I "DO" appreciate the craft involved in the fit and finish of these cars. It's just sad they resemble so many similar cars that it's all in vain. A little less effort/money, and a little more imagination/forethought could produce a more interesting piece. You have to admit, there's more often than not, a very interesting car at a fraction of the cost
yea Chris thanks for sticking up for me.... I was there this weekend with my car for AMBR ( the little black roadster with orange wires issue 33 cover of TRJ) you guys please don't shit talk ok, there were a lot of great cars up for the award and great people... You may not like them, we may not like some of your cars but we don't go saying bad stuff about your cars... You know what I was so happy to be at the show this weekend with my dad, getting to see my good freinds, and meeting some of the people either myself or my father admire... So please think before you type I don't wanna start anything on here, but you may not like our cars but you know what our side of the hot rodding community is very close were kinda like a big family.. And we really don't care what some of you have to say, I respect some of you on here but this just gets old talk about cars and the history theres a lot better things you could be talking about... Like what about that bad ass 32 display, or that cool peddal car my freind at rolling bones built lol.... stop being a bunch of little girls... O and by the way I have a blast with my car, it runs awesome I drove it in and out of the show and drove it like a mile to the trailer, and plan on driving the heck out of it this summer... Living in MI it's not a easy task to drive that small of a car being it's like snowing and are roads are shitty... So just please have a little respect, cuz I know what the builders go threw when building these cars and what we give up to build these cars... I don't want any back talk now.. Cuz I'm still on a high from this weekend there were many nice cars at the show... I didn't have a nice display for my car it was a little handmade rail to keep people out, I didn't jack my car all up like all the other ones, but u know what I had so many nice comments from the true car people in the industry.. And was lucky enough to take home the Chip Foose design excellence award, and in the AMBR catagory best detail.. The awards don't matter to me at this kind of stuff it's the people... So please don't say anything the car that won AMBR deserved to win AMBR thats the end it's over it's finished now STOP... I'm a really nice person but you people on here make me not that nice of a person...
I am so glad to hear that Lee got an award. He does some of the cleanest non-over the top rides and still has that eye for all to just admire. I know him personally and will have to give him a call to say congrats. My one pic of it came out all blurry. KNUX!
Anyone here know all the awards and whom recieved them? I have not yet seen anything posted on the winners here except for the ones that won in the Suede Palace that I was at Sat night. KNUX!
Ash, you have a great car, and I'm glad it got some recognition in the awards. I agree with the general tone of this thread, though, that so many of the AMBR candidates are merely money displays with too little imagination.
I thought it might win but was hoping the one of the others would. This car is extremely nice and detailed.. as were ALL of the contenders and everyone one of them was a work of art.. Ash I think I seen you on Friday just before the show opened, loading some stuff into the back of what I think was your dad's (or family members) coupe (see below)
hahah yea thanks thats my dads 32' we were loading rodders journals in the car, it's nice having a car that you can store stuff in being mine has zero room
Sorry to say - that's just not very good looking. It doesn't even compare well to the stock car it's attempting to emulate. I'm sure my piddly comments don't mean anything to the craftsmen that did a FABULOUS job building it or the owner who loves it. Seems like the same swoopy '30s-Ford-esque" shape takes this thing every year. Why not some other roadster design? It's all downhill after Ala Kart. This was the '90 winner... ew. Hell, I think Pinkee's truck could have done a MUCH better job of representing AMBR. Just my .20.
It really doesn't seem to about originality or design anymore but just build quality and display. You could have the coolist design and have one bolt that doesn't line up with the other 100 and you would be out of the running. Cars like Ashleys at least show some innovation and imagination while retaining that high build quality. But like she said she didn't have a fancy display. Bet that hurt her in the judging more than the cool design helped. Doesn't seem right. This being the case you can understand why people don't stray from what has been proven to win in the past if they really want to win the award.
I was thinking of this the other night........I bet that guys back in the 50's & 60's saw the winner of the AMBR and bitched and moaned about how the car was never driven and "insert name here" built it........and a month later they were tearing up the dry lakes and dragstrips and forgot about the AMBR til' the next year or when they saw it at a "car show" or "displayed" at the local car dealer.
so if so many of you guys don't like it...don't talk about it...was it your money..no...was it your time..no...Why not go build something you like, drive the piss out of it..and stop worrying...The cars that win may not represent what you're into...if you're a drag racer...do you Bash nascar..or vice versa..Last time I knew..this "sport", hobby, LIFESTYLE....oir whatever you want to call it didn't have rules....if we all built trad hot rods...I wouldn't be doin it...face it...we don't need to like everything built...just respect the work being done...
I liked the post from Ash, straight and to the point, couldn't agree more with her. Cars like hers and attitudes like hers is why hot rods will live for a long time to come....
that 32 Sedan of yours was the BEST IN SHOW in my book. I took 100 photos of that thing. having done a lil bit of work on an AMBR car this year it is a rough game & anyone that should have enough skill, guts money or whatever it takes to get a car there should be commended... one thing I learned that things like fenders, a removable top, a bitchen hood, etc. all add more points to win the award. so a simple style car with none of those things doesnt really stand a chance against something with all of those things.
I liked it better when you could either win AMBR or Ridler. Now, a roadster can win both in consecutive years. I really think it's going to bring many more high-end roadsters to Detroit, and I really think whoever wins the Ridler will, almost inevitably, win AMBR the following January. I mean, it's GOT to bring a strong psychological edge during the judging...and if you CAN win both, why even debut a new car at the GNRS anymore? If you're in the game, you might as well go for the "sweep" right?? I think I liked it better when a car had to be a 'debut' to qualify for either award. It truly ensured both of these great shows would be full of different, new cars going for the big award. Just my two cents... ~Scotch~
