    Mr. Jackson's problems extend beyond any accusations in this email. He is currently working without a contract with the City of Scottsdale. The contract he had with the City to hold the auction at West World ran out last year and he is in the process of re-negotiating the contract. Read that as Craig Jackson is trying to blackmail the City into a contract more favorable to him or he will move the auction out of Scottsdale.

    In addition the "tent" they have there currently doesn't meet the City Fire Code. The Fire Marshal wants either fire sprinklers or more sprinklers, I don't remember which. Since it is a fabric covered structure it is technically a tent, and therefore "temporary". But this tent has been installed for years. The Fire Dept. is concerned with a fire in the "tent" and wants sprinklers for public safety. To my knowledge this is still an open issue.

    If the City of Scottsdale gets pushy with B-J, the Fire Dept. could say no auction without sprinklers. Mr. Jackson could say, Goodbye, because I have no contract. The next question: Where does the auction go next? The high roller car buyers love Scottsdale because its close to the fancy resorts where they stay. And Scottsdale doesn't want to lose the prestige of the auction and the mega dollars the buyers spend in the City while staying there.

    Problems, problems, problems. Such worries when the money gets too, too big and the greed runs rampant.

    The Four Wheel Drift article was written by Sam Barer, an automotive journalist. Although it's a great muscle car show, I've long thought that Craig Jackson was a snake. Don't be surprised if some of the cars that got the quick hammer were sold too quick because the owners wouldn't play Jacksons games.

    I've never watched the televised Barrett Jackson Auction and I never will. Add Coddington to that list as well. Neither has anything to do with my "automotive interests"! I've learned in my relatively old age (I retired last month) not to deal with things that I KNOW are going to alienate me. I won't waste my energy on any of that crap. I love "HAMB-land"!

    It does compute quite well. The points made were:

    1. BJ people quiz owners on what they wanted for their car;
    2. When the car hits that area, car is rushed off...owner is ok with the same price;
    3. Car is NOT on stage 3 minutes as contracted;
    4. For every 3 cars that get this shove, one additional car gets 3 minutes on the stage.

    So, BJ rushes through with the owner getting price. So they lose $5k additional. However, that's only $15k lost because of rushing through. They get an additional car on the block for a minimum of $30k which doubles the volume they lost. At 16% commission over the course of six days, this adds up to a bunch of change.

    Owners don't really complain because they got what they wanted or about. $5k difference is really only $4400 difference due to commissions so the seller shrugs it off. And, I'd imagine that his adrenaline is pumping like hell seeing his car price at $50k plus and the excitement of the auction doesn't really allow for the seller to stopwatch the time his car is on the block.

    BJ is up to 18% commission.

    10% buyer and 8% sellers. Big bucks change into their hands in those few days.

    Another comment.
    I'm not saying CJ is a saint by any stretch but his Dad bought out Barrett, his dad died, The two Brothers took over the family business. Craig's brother Brian (I think) then died. Craig and to a lessor degree Brian built this business to what it is today. Not to forget their Mother is still involved. I would absolutely love to have been in a family that had a business to pass on. Love my family too but we worked for others.
    Many family legacies are pass on. Good for them.

    No reason for me to be jealous.

    The biggest are attacked the hardest.

    because they are the easiest target.

    Get a bussiness from the family and run it into the ground, your a spoiled idiot. Get a business and build it up and your a crook riding on coat tails.

    I really didn't want to comment on this post, but I have to say, the link above to Autoweek doesn't work. I too am very interested in finding out who the author of this letter is and WHO the person "Barrett Jackson" that started this thread really is....
    I mean if you have a beef with B-J, why would you ever use that as a screen name? Hmm....

    It is hard to feel sorry for anyone, able to spend that kind of money , that gets taken. And untill B&J startes selling cars under $5,000 it won't effect me!

  14. I have been hearing this stuff for years. And theres no doubt in my mind its true. I have it first hand from guys who have both bought and sold cars there. Lots of people just dont want to stand up and say it. Its been along time coming but I think it will get exposed.

    I have been to BJ and many other auctions since the Eighties and I can tell you that the only difference between then and now is that now it is on TV and there is alot more domestic iron going across the block.
    Auction houses are like the newsletters that recommend certain stocks, they can create or fuel their own market simple due to change of demand. Remember the Rick Cole "Gold List"?
    The system protects sellers better than buyers for sure; just get (or download) an entry form. You are allowed to bid on your own car and the auction house accepts no responsibility for the accuracy of the description - this includes things like the year/model or VIN. Anyway, I suspect that the next issue of Sports Car Market is going to be interesting!

    Who cares?!

  20. I was waiting for that question.[IMG] I've been using it for years. I play Battlefield 1942 online, and thats my Game name. I liked the ring. And it's stuck over the years.

  21. Read my last post about why I use the name. I can change it for you if you like. ;) Second, I DON'T have a beef with Barrett Jackson, besides the over pricing of the cars that are on their show which gives everyone visions a grandure. But I don't lose sleep over it. I put it up to start some discussion about the topic. What else would you like to know about me? I like hockey. I'm Canadian and I like the Bruins. No conspiracy there. If there is anything else you let me know......

    Well for what it's worth after a bit o' Googlin' I came up with this link from a fella named Sam Barer. It looks like he has already removed the original post.

    http://fourwheeldrift.wordpress.com/

    Like the old saying goes where there's smoke there's usually fire. But there are always at least 2 sides to every story.

    From experience I've found there's normally 3 sides:

    One side, the other side and the truth!

    Damn! Missed the Sam Barer reference earlier. my bad

    It wouldn't surprise me at all if there was some shady shit going on, and the reason I say that is because there is shady shit going on at EVERY CAR AUCTION PERIOD!!!!

    I ran the recovery and collections department of a decent sized finance company, and part of my job was travelling to auctions and selling the cars we'd repossessed. I can tell you that how much you get for a car at an auction is basically influenced by a variety of factors, one of which is the auctioneer.

    Remember in the movie "Casino" when Sharon Stone is folding $100 bills into small squares to hand off as tips? I used to do that with auctioneers. I'd walk up to the block and shake hands with them, and deposit that Benjamin in their palm every time. What it bought was more "Hey folks, this just isn't good money on this car! Now come on, let's get this going!!!" and more time for every individual car crossing the block.

    Some of the other sellers were clueless. "Why doesn't he pimp our cars like he pimps yours???" Uhh, I don't know guys. Guess he just likes me. The dealers that were buddies would shill-bid each others cars, etc, etc.

    This is how auctions work (at least every single one I dealt with).

    Auctions are auctions, if there is little interest in a car........their "alias" wont bid to drive the price. But if it seems there is a few nibblers, they drive the price. Only sad thing is they fcuked up the real value of cars, and those who purchase for investment purpose will be shit outta luck, because this hype that BJ has done to the car craze has to crash...........like a house of cards.
