Buddy was the true loss out of the three( i'm not dissin the other 2).But i think they would have been 1 & 2 hit wonders. Its amazing how much influence holley has on music, even today, what a loss!! His songs where covered by almost everyone in the music world , stones really appreciated his music. Somewhere hes playin his strat & singing"peggy sue" JimV
Yeah, I remember seeing the front page of the newspaper with the wreckage also, I was in seventh grade. We were stunned! Imagine all the songs we know so well today were created within an eighteen-month career. We just did some marquee signs for a Buddy Holly musical currently receiving rave reviews in Chicago. It just opened and has already been extended.
I dont know? what if he became like 70's elvis, would it have destroyed his image or sound. Wish we could have heard more of all three of them. How would it have changed the sound of rock or pop. valens, the big bopper and holly. We will never know. The sky belongs to the stars.
after i type this i'm going to a buddies house to go on a garage tour. eyeball lives about 4 blocks from were the moorhead armory stood. which as you all know that was the next stop of the "winter dance party" tour
What a lot of people don't know is who the person was that drew the straw that didn't get them on the plane and the cold ride on the Bus. Guess who ? answer at the bottom. The Surf Ball Room in Clear Lake, Iowa ( Their last concert) is still there today and looks right out of the 1950's. There is a winter bash that takes place each year that brings in a lot of the groups from the 50's and 60's and is sold out every year. Always some time in February. There is a post/plaque at the field crash site BTW. oh yea- answer to question below. Wayland Jennings ! B*** player for the group. Switched with "The Big Bopper" J.P. Richardson because Richardson didn't sleep or fit well with the bus seats.
Hey.. Here's one for ya.. A number of years ago I caught the end of a W-Jennings concert on tv. The last song he did was in memory of Holley. The song was Peggy Sue. WOW is all I can say.. Sorry I had forgot (all I remembered, this is the time when every TV channel runs that lame 'Groundhog Day' movie). It seems, as if by some unknown power-to-be, that genius is taken away so quickly from us. As with Holly and others of his caliber, true inspiration appears suddenly but is fleeting.

Several years ago some friends and my wife and I were able to attend the midwinter party at the suft ball room. What a time that was. They had some of Vales relation and the big boppers son there. All kinds of 50's music played. I really enjoyed the time there. We drove out to the crash site, but was dissapointed at the memorial to the memory of those in the crash. If anyone gets a chance to go it is well worth the time and money spent.
A sad day indeed. Just think, if all that talent was to stay around for at least another 30, 40 years! I'll have some Holly music rockin in the shop today. Will have it turned up too. After all, It's "The Day Music Died"

It makes you wonder if the Beatles would have broke like they did if Buddy was still alive. Buddy was a genius and died before his time. I think he might have shaped music before the Beatles.
