Well, This is my new toy for the year. I just picked it up a week ago. I am just thinking of what way I want to go with this. Some pics and ideas are great. I plan to leave the original running gear in it. The Flattie just runs to good to take it out. But I definitely will be either rodding this or customizing it .[IMG]

well, if you want to get money, resto a stocker like he said... but if it were mine and i wanted to custom it... i wouldnt paint it, drop it on the ground, leave the whites and do some white pinstripping! haha... my dad has a 39 convertible, his is a 2 door though

You mention that this is "this year's toy". Sounds like you may not be planning on keeping it forever. If you go all out customizing or rodding it, it'll be your version of the perfect car - but not anyone else's. Might make the sale tougher.

Those were beautiful when new - & a lot of people have enough sense to recognize that.

I'd shoot it Washington Blue, install a Lebaron-Bonney interior & top, & clean/paint/detail the ch***is & running gear. Then I'd adjust the stance with tires, reversed eye springs, & a dropped axle. Add gas shocks while you're at it.

I think you should trade it to me for my 39 coupe with a 327 and 4 speed.

It would be dark non-metalic green, beige top, apple green wheels w/wws and pinstripping, 40's flipper caps or sombreros, skirts, 41 bumpers, 41 Stude tail lights and original headlights if it were mine. No not very original thinking but damn that would look good!!

  9. Ditto that. VERY cool car.

Well , I just picked it up this year that is why I said that it is this years toy. I plan on getting rid of the headlights and the marker lights that some one had put on the car.The thing is that this thing was being slightly customized by it's previous owner. The interior is like a seafoam green and salmon pink"UGLY AS HELL" and the marker lights on the fenders look like they are from a 1950 Willys Jeep and as you can see they don't quite match . This is carried to the rear fenders as well, they have some sort of 60's taillights purtruding out of them that also suffer being lined up the same. All the trim holes have been filled and the hood has been relieved from it's hood ornament and smoothed off. My plan is to drop the car down and give it a freshing up.I have gotten the original 1939 Deluxe Head lights for it. I have also ordered a new top and rear 39 taillights for this rear I will run it the color it is, but I need to get the interior out and something new . As for this thing being worth more original than rodded I think that is wrong. I checked thing up and they are worth just as much as a rod or custom than original. Being my family is big this will be staying around for a while.

It would be foolish to make any modifications to that car that can't be "un-done" fairly easily.

The car will always be worth big money unless you modify it significantly.

Hey Joe I didn't realize you caught me in that picture of your 39.... man I've got to get back on that diet!!!!
wanted to let you know that Hop Up from May of 1962 had a car very close to yours on the cover, check it out.

  17. Yep, what Harrison said, 'cept make mine black. They're beautiful cars as is and look good with a clean-up and lowering. Don't forget the wide whites and some subtle striping. Then drive it till the treads are gone.

    Neat car!

The cover car on Hop Up was May '52, not '62. Ray Vega's car was a Valley Custom built, chopped and channeled '38 humpback; a great car. It's currently owned by Tony Handler, who is apparently restoring it in a very leisurely fashion.

    Hey Dave,

Yeah John must have gotten you. He sent me these pics because I have to reload my camera . So what do you think I have a tan top coming in. I eventually would like it either Green or Black. With tan interior. I am not cutting the body up on this one. May be some slight mods to the fenders.

I echo what most the other folks say, whatever you do, make sure it can be easily undone. I would make a list of what is missing. Speaking from experience, 39 conv't parts are difficult to find, conv't sedan parts are even harder. So start your search as early as possibile. I see most the difficult stuff seems to be there. The conv't interchanges with the woody and the station wagon only on those special items (mostly window/cowl area). First thing, order the 38/39 book from the early ford V8 club (~$35) Pricey, but worth it

I want to thank you guys so far. I have been digging up some ideas. I really like the 41 Stude taillights and Briz bumpers may look good. I also like the 40 Merc grille better than my Ford grille. Anyone have an idea of how much Labaron Bonney interior will run me for this. I really want to get a tan leather for it. I also am going to ad a Banjo wheel.Well looking forward to some info. the tailights I really like and want to find a pair.

It is looks like an old RIGHT COAST custom.
Do the brakes and wiring then drive it to piss off the purist restorers.
