Well, I can say it again, they are out there. My neighbor wanders down the alley a time or two a week, to have a beer, and watch me work on the '33. So, I took a day off to get some more stuff done, and he calls me. Asks me if I'd be interested in another truck project. Told him my cash was tied up in this one. He said cash isn't an issue. Tells me a guy he works with has an old Chevy pickup in his garage, thinks it's a '55, and his ole-lady want's it out, so they can convert the garage into a playroom for the carpet crawlers. He said the truck was free, if i wanted it. I said, "that will fit into my budget without a problem". Now, am I in the market for another project, hell no. BUT. The wife and I went to look at it that night. It ain't a prom date, but it's got a 283, 3-speed, and ***le. Bed wood's 1/2 gone, interior's gone, couple old van bucket seats thrown in it, not too much cancer, but hell, the price is right. I told him I'd be happy to help him clean out his garage. He was happy (not), his wife was happy, mine was happy that she was gettin' a truck like her grandpa had. She remembers riding on the runnin' boards as a kid, so she wants it to tote the dog around in. So, with the help of Big Tony/spouse, Hugh ('53Ash), couple other guys, we drug it home last Sunday. My wife is of the understanding that I ain't turnin' a wrench on it, until the '33 is a driver. So, for the time being, it will sit in the driveway and be happy. So guys, their are still garages out there with stuff in 'em we want. Happy wrenchin'.
WOW!!! I look EVERYWHERE for these things ('55s-'57s) and can't find squat- and you have neighbors begging you to take it off your hands??? Wow! Great score. Jim
Free!? Soild metal, so very nice to see these oldie's looking this good yet..........Damn the cursed rust-belt.
Funny thing, one of the first comments my 'spousal-unit' made was, "it's already in Harley colors". hehehehe Yea, it's pretty solid. It belonged to this guys grandfather, and he wasn't really happy to see it go. But he's convinced it's going to a good home. He had it 5 years, and managed to remove the hood, valve covers, and intake. Got all those items. Not sure who copped the interior, but, oh well, beggers can't be choosey. It will be taken good care of.
I think Big ken has not mentioned the most important part yet. The brackets and such he was needing for the 33 just happen to be on the 55 PU we drug home, plus the seat fit in the 33. The thing is a sweet truck and has plenty of potential.
This reminds me of my situation. I bought my 47 ford for $1500 off ebay, kind of got screwed cause it was in delaware and I couldn't look at it before I bought it. I ****ed it up and decided to make it worth it. Then my two buddies got their trucks. The first buddy, his boss bought him a 53 ford f1. The second got a 53 international truck with ***le and a parts truck for free. And here is the kicker both trucks are 20 times in better condition than mine! I told them they should start their own car club and call it "We didn't pay **** for these"
I got two words for you pal..........F U!! What a score! Have fun with it. Nuthin' free around here.......
You can just call me "Jealous" for short. But my full name is "Jealous as HELL!!!!!!" Nice score, man. I really wanted one of those for years and years.
Damn, all I can say is the wife of that guy who gave you the truck must be a demon in the sack! What else would make a guy give away a big-window '55 that was his grandfather's? PLUS he's losing his garage! The lesson here isn't so much that the good deals are out there, vintage tin is still around or to keep your friends tuned in to the fact that you're always looking for deals. The lesson here is: Marry smart! That guy didn't. You certainly did, with your wife encouraging you to drag it home when you've already got another in the works. Brad
That does it. I'm movin' to TEXAS. Wanna sell it? I'll give you double, no..triple what you have in it so far! Is there such a thing as "karma envy"? Good score, keep us posted on the (eventual) build. Lance
