The other term that doesn't fly too well around here (besides rat rod) is street rod. Ask me how I know??? But I have been in an isolated bubble for the last 20 years so I was not up on all the new politically correct, or incorrect terminology when I named my yahoo group. I still get crap once in awhile, but who cares? I know what I want, and what I like... and according to the new terms my car is definately NOT a street rod. This is a GREAT group and I have met a lot of awesome guys here, both on the web and in person. I have also had some real good help and input when I have needed it on my project. Most of the people here would give you the shirt off his or her back if you were in trouble. You can't ask for anything more than that.

Ok so you're not as thick skinned as I had hoped. I guess you didn't catch what I was talking about, jalopy was my dad's generation, beater was mine, you stumbled on rat rod because that's what you have heard them called. Both beater and jalopy lean toward driver as opposed to "Show Car" What you are building is commonly called a mild custom in the world outside of our little piece of cyberspace. Nothin' wrong with it I like a shoe box as well as anyone. I also like low and I avoided asking about the build because I didn't want to read the regular rashon of gee willikers not a chebby in a Ford. but you managed to throw the SBC thing out there anyway. it looks like the kinder gentler HAMB has offered you some mercy. It has nothing to do with snobery it just used to be a pretty rough bunch and the crap ( drama?) used to be a right of passage. BTW I don't like blue or wide whites. Why not '51 Jalopy and don't bother telling everyone that you're young. no one will be the wiser until they see you.

i think its funny that its such an ordeal over a simple name... like you said, your dads era was different than yours and its evolved again i guess... yes, i want it a driver... nothing that im afraid to drive and get a bug splat on nor scrape some asphalt and shave off some undercarriage... this is a hobby of mine and nobody is gonna make me change what i like... i may ask for opinions, but thats just to weight an even scale... doesnt mean ill agree with anyone... the sbc thing came from my dad, and me wanting to have a fast car... well, now i just want a nice cruiser... wish i would have kept the flattie v8.. but someday ill change that around... like i said, im strapped for cash and trying to build me a fun car to drive... things i dont like is air-ride... i like the car to be low without the help of air or hydraulics... i hate people that buy a car and dont know what it is or why its there... people that have chrome brake calipers and lines and all that crap for show.... what about "51Dicktripper" or "JackTripper"? both solid. Maybe "Ruler". your car looks like you are on the "right" track dude. Do what you want, find a style you like and make your car that way. you'll just get bummed or waste energy worrying about what other people like, say, do. Find a style, or era you like, and try to create something like that, something you would see in that era or that looks like what you dig. There is a ton of info on this board for you to learn from, then you don't have to deal with the crap. sdo a search here on The HAMB (Tech Archives) for what ever you want, most questions you will have have been asked and answered, not to mention good deals to be had in the classifieds (check out the HAMB Alliance). You might have to weed through the BS and opinions of what is cool, not cool, the new guy shit, etc. You get it. I mean would these dudes treat you that way if you approched them at a car show & asked the same question? I doubt it. It's easy to be a tough jerk on a chat room. Go buy some old issues of Rod & Restyling or Custom Rodder from the old days, (the little pages), you will find 10 ways to lower, modify, customiz, etc your car, Remember, most of the real cool cars from way back that we all love and try to recreate in our own way today were built WAY before the internet and chat rooms or message boards. Actually its not really a problem. There are probably a thousand other rods in walking distance, if I don't like your I can look at someone elses. Black paint is the cheapest there is and white walls look dumb on a street brawler. Well maybe they would add to the sleeper effect. You'll probably be alright, I run chebbys in my drivers now if I want to build serious zot I usually build something differtent but if all I want is healthy and drive it any day any time I run chebbys. I personally don't have a problem with putting a chebby in a ford, that's hot rodding.
