I did a search here and didn't come up with exactly what I was looking for. I probably didn't key in to the right words or something. But anyway, I'd like input and feedback from your expereince with fender welting. I am trying to decide between going with Drakes pre-colored (which isn;t an exact match to my color but darn close) or the paintable style. Any ideas, tips, suggestions, or ????

    Thanks.

  2. if the color is off , my opinion it will stick out like a sore thumb. you would be better off with the standard black

i didn't know they had paintable welting..i'm not sure how well the paint would stick to it

you could just paint the car black

I'd say go with the black...I agree you might be able to paint it but it staying on htere might be another story.

The car is being painted Guards red.
I think Macs sells a paintable welting. With a flex agent in the paint it is supposed to hold up just fine, but that is why I am asking questions. I have also thought about just dusting the Drake stuff with a very lite dusting of base coat just to tint it just enough to match the car.

Thanks for all the input. Keep the ideas a coming!

I only use black or chrome.
Chrome welting is the real traditional deal.
Chome welting has been on my 32 since 1956 and still primo.
    Designer colors are gay.

Chrome??? Hey, I had forgotten about that stuff! Hmmm.

My approach with this car is the keep the body and trim basically stock appearing so molding the fenders into the body is not an option on this one.

Here's something I have done before with good results.

If you have an excellent fit from the fender to the body (or running boards etc.) go the the fabric or upholstery supply store and buy some heavy clear plastic. Cut it into strips to form a gasket. It helps get a tight fit and keeps the squeeking down. Can't see it when its installed.

Clear RTV would work well, maybe let it skin just a little .

I never use any just a gasket. Looks cleaner.
