hi all just trying to figure out which swap meets to go to thids year to sell some stuff at . where are the best ones to go to ?? i will be at charlotte that is a given but i dont know were else??? help thanks trodz
Cowtown in New Jersey is pretty good. It's just north of the Delaware line so it ain't to far away. It usually goes on in early March I think!!! Good Luck!!
Charlotte N.C. Autofair in the spring. Bigger and bigger every year, and not as much of the price inflation that goes on at Heshey and Carlisle.
moultrie,ga this weekend and the weekend before thanksgiving. both are huge. daytona,fl twice each year. "speedway spectacular" in the spring, and the "turkey rod run" thanksgiving weekend. both daytona meets are huge swapmeets. dan
Duuude the Turkey rod run is one of the worst swap meets , Webster is bigger , every month! Obviously youve never been to Hershey or Carlisle , they are what are other swaps are aspiring to be.
Hershey maybe the biggest but more and more guys are coming home empty handed and dissapointed with the stuff that is there. Charlotte is laid back, there are still good deals, and you don't have to deal with the packard and dusenburg crowd(not that there is anything wrong witht hat crowd), but htey cringe at the sight or talk of us "dirty rodders". Again come to Cahrlotte at the speedway and you won't be dissapointed.
I've been going to Hershey for 27 years (I'm 36 now). I would agree that is still is awesome, but it is no where near what it use to be. You now have to really dig in those piles much deeper where the cool parts use to be right there out in the open. Small price. A lot of no shows in spots where it was booked to the gills. Every hot rodder needs to go to Hershey before they die. It is one of those "must do's" and still worth the trip.
Compared to the swap meet scene 20-25 years ago, they all are. I still brought home a load from Hershey last fall--you've just got to get there early and have a sharp eye. The old "show up on the last day and get better prices" theory is hoplessly outdated.
I would agree with this statement as well. This Oct. I was lucky enoough to bring home 2 brand new, not reground flathead cams for $100.00 & 2 NOS Hellings air cleaners for $25.00 this year. Best Hershey advice: Get there earlier-Wednesday is best, be prepared for the weather (what ever it may be), stay late, and DO NOT leave a part there and tell yourself you'll come back later for it. If it's any good at all, it will most certainly be gone.
All the swap meets are going down hill, the good PreWar stuff has been bought up years ago. Hershey is still the best haven't missed a year since 1969. Why bring good stuff and sell it at a fixed price when you can list it at home at 3 in the morning in a snow storm on the internet? Swap meets are great places to meet old friends and make new ones, but rare is the day you really score something. Rhinebeck, New York is a good one, but nothing like it was 30 years ago.
My problem is I always have to work our trailer at the show so the cruisin of the parts is severely reestricted. Any swap meet where I don't have to work is a great swapmeet.
Daytona is fine if you are looking for muscle car parts. I was there this year - and picked up a pair of '32 wires for $50 - straight and clean...I bought a "78" ****** case for $20....but this was on Wednesday during setup....didn't buy anything but hotdogs and soda pop the rest of the time. I went to Charlotte for the first time in Sept - awesome... And moultrie is pretty good - Webster FL every month is only an hour away for me, so I hit it up just about every month. Picked up a pair of '42-48 spindles for $40 last month...worth dricing down there for that.
