While Dirty31 was putting in my new rearend on my 54 i had him drop the ass end with 3' blocks and it looks pretty dang kewl. I now need to get the motor and such back in so I cant get the front done. Pics to come later Also anyone else with 53-54 Chevy have any problems with the 3" drop blocks instead of just a 2'' kit.
I used to have 4" blocks in mine no real problems, Anything more then that you will get into scrubline issues and bottoming out.
I've been running 3" blocks for over a year now and the only problem I had was it bottoms out on the frame pretty easily. A mild notch would fix that, though.
I de arched the springs in my 54 by 4 inches. Bit stiffer in the rear and no real dramas except on speed humps, bumps etc when you feel the snubbers. I would use blocks next time to keep the ride smoother.
Yeah, 3" blocks aren't bad...once you start taking out leaves and getting the axle close to frame at ride height, then it gets rough. I cut my bump-stops to get a little more travel...it still didn't take much of a pothole for my rear to slam pretty hard. I thought I was hitting my cut stops, but when I took the car apart to do my 4-link, I saw a nice wear-spot and dent where the pumpkin was hitting the trunk! Bryan
I'm also runnin 3'' blocks, with three springs removed from each side(the two short ones, and one long one).I ended up having to c-notch it because it would bottom out on the frame, real easy.It was easy to determine where to c-notch,because like Rusk said, there was a good wear mark where it had been hitting, easy way to find center of notch I've also got two coils cut out of the front.
I forgot to take some when we were loading it up and leaving the Dirty Compound, Sorry but they did get some pics of his daughter sitting on my daughters pony
I want to go 3 as well but I already have the 2" block kit with the offset hole. I was going to weld them on my camaro end next weekend... Anyone else hate these damed non-centered centering pins?!?!?! You guys with the stock rears dont need to mess with it until you swap rear ends... BD
