'34 Plymouth RPU Update - She's A ROLLER!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richard D, Jan 31, 2007.

  1. Just a quick update on the RPU. Not many pictures, but I do have a dark and grainy video. Got my front crossmember welded in Sunday(Thanks Dave!).I cut out the siezed up left brake(about three pounds of sand in there) last night (Thanks Unklee!),and got the drum spinning on the spindle. Right now I just wedged a piece of flat bar between the frame and split wishbone. It's about 4" off the ground, which will be approximate ride height. It will be able to go up and down with the hidden airbags. My shackles and perches are in the mail. I hope to get them mounted this weekend. Next step is the cowl steering, stay tuned...

I may mount the bed 2" lower, right on the frame.
    More later.

Pretty darn cool. The SBC is only temporary until you find enough cool speed parts for your early Hemi, Poly or 413, right?

looks great! did you built your own bed?

  8. Yes. I plan to have cheap fun with the small block while prepping a cool vintage motor, Nailhead, Rocket, or, if I get a good raise, HEMI!

  9. I got some annonomous bedsides for $30 from the H.A.M.B. Classifieds and built a structure out of 1" tubing.

Better? Maybe lower? Kinda hard to tell, may look better when the quarter panels are on. Maybe taller rear tires?

personally i think you could maybe even drop the bed a little more- i think itll look better with the bed rail at the same height as the fattest door swage, the bottom one. it would keep the lines cleaner. it looks just a bit higher at the moment.

  13. about the tires,I think the front tires looks huge compared to the rest of the car, what size are they?otherwise I think you´re going in the right direction.
as for saving up to a engine,I´d say a long ram 413 would look kick ass!

  14. looks great man...

i would definitely lower the bed 2 to 3".

The new front z looks perfect.

    nice job!!!

  15. You must be right, I thought it was just the angle of the camera, but after rolling it outside and getting a look from a distance, the front tires look too big and the rears look too small...Oh well, good excuse for a LONG burnout once this thing is under it's own power. I plan to properly abuse this thing to the point of almost destroying something I built with my own two hands, whatever breaks will be re-built stronger and subjected to more abuse. What can I say, that's just what hot rodders do.
