hubcap identity?

What is this from. I looked at the hubcap web site but it doesn't go back that far.

 

Do you have any better pics? Looks like an early Mercury cap, possibly '42

here's a close shot of the emblem. It does resemble a Mercury to some degree, but doesn't look right to me.

 

here's another. The wings look right but the rest of the emblem looks weird.

I dunno, I would say outside.

 

It looks German. Could be the long lost Hitler limo cap.

 

Funny you should say that, my dad owned Hitlers Mercadies(spl) in 1955-56. Dad was stationed in Germany when I was born and as a sideline to earn more money bought and sold cars. He traded a Buick and recieved a $100 for the car. He drove it for a year, but all the locals would walk by and spit on it, calling it Hitlers car. He sold it for $150. About 1973-4 We seen it sell at Kruse-Leake auction in Tulsa for @ 125,000 if I remember right.

Looks like the Mercury logo at the top of this 1940 ad.

 

It's a '46 Mercury. '47-'48 have wing shapes above the word Mercury.
