Sad tale... We just couldn't get it done. The folks at the track in Arizona are good folks, but we just couldn't justify the cost and timing on our end. Essentially, the event would have cost racers $45 to register and spectators $15 to get in the door... And we would have only had the track for 6 hours or so... Marcie and I thought long and hard about it, but we just couldn't make any financial sense of it so we decided to drop the event for 2007. The good news? We are working on getting both an east coast and a west coast H.A.M.B. Drags set up for 2008.
Sometimes you gotta move on and don't look back. After being to the HAMB drags last year for the first time I feel bad for the coast guys who can't make it. Was the best time I had all summer. Hope you can come up with something for em. We still got Mokan right ? Gary
I'm very sad about this but I realize your doing what you think is best. Personally, $15 entry for a cool event is not out of line. GG charges $12. It's $9.00 around here just to see a 2 hour movie. $45 participates entry is also reasonable considering the insurance and all the other stuff involved. Well I guess the Jalopy Showdown in May will have to statisfy my hot rod fix for the entire month of May! Me and the local boys are REALLY looking forward to your Drive In movie gig in June in Ohio too....just in case you didn't realize that. I Ryan still
It's true, those prices don't really seem out of line at all. But hell, I've heard people whine about having to pay $5 to walk into Billetproof.
Its $20 to test and tune here... for an actual event $45 sounds within reason. I'd pay... but I could see $45 keeping car count down a little.
I wouldn't mind the money if we had the track all day... Unfortunately, we would be really limited with track time. In fact, we would have to be off the track and out of the pits by 6:30 or so... To me, that's just not enough track time to justify the money...
Ok so, since I haven't been paying attention to the east coast drags, when and where are they? I might just go to them instead
Too bad there are no outlaw tracks that would step up. I have been to a couple grass roots tracks who run 1/8 mile. They don't seem to be all that safe but they sure are fun.
Ok. My .02 cents...why don't we open the Hamb drags up at 10:00am on Saturday so the racers can get set up and get aquainted and those that partied all night can sleep in and come later?...hmmm?
We did that year one........................125 degrees and the corn acrossthe highway started on fire it was so hot and dry!
Your preachin' to the choir sweetheart. I'd be at the track at dawn if Ryan said we could. Who cares about the temps, I'm there for the cars and people, not to bitch about ANYTHING, including burnt pig. Tman, while this post has your attention, gues who I got lots of hugs from last weekend??? Your HAMB Drags Pig Burning....I mean roasting sidesick, DJ.
August! Hope there's plenty of shade... With all the base closures out west, there must be 50 old runways that would be useful for 50 MPH dragsters.
Sorry to hear Ryan, but I understand about the fees and limited time. Keep trying to find something on the left coast.
agree for 6 hrs that is not enough... shit lets find a good out of town location (out in the corn or cotton fields), pool the money (for bail) and just hold a good ol fashion street race event..
It's not California, but you might try contacting Dee Adams (or whoever is running the show now) at Renegade Raceway in Yakima Wa. It's a very basic track, with lights, timing, old bleachers and pits like they were long ago. It's in the desert, so the days are warm and lots of racing at night. They live on the grounds, so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone available.
