Wow.... reading this thread all the way through is why we don't tallk politics. You guys are talking like one party is looking out for you and the other isn't. That's a bunch of ******** right there, they are both ****ing us with absolutely no lube. And ****ing us hard. I'm all for a responsible at***ude towards the environment and you guys that think everything is fine need to open you ****ing eyes... There is damage from pollution, yeah I don't think our cars did it, but damn something needs to be done about it. And I want my ****ing civil rights back....

Now just in case I missed anything... Hitler did it...

There is a lot of damage from pollution, and something has been and continues to be done about it, and it really doesn't affect our cars. And neither party gives a **** about us, but we do have enough of a voice that we can mostly keep them from screwing with us too bad.

We have enough of a voice to be heard?

If thats the case maybe you could comment on what killed the muscle car movement?

Global warming because of human activity is ********. Mars is warming too and there arent any human THERE to cause it! The earth has warmed and cooled thousands of times and will continue to do so, despite anything we do good or bad. They go on and on about certain glacers melting in Greenland but conveinently don't tell you there are just as many growing. Same thing in the Antarctic, one is recedeing and another is growing. We humans just don't have the power we'd like to think we have. Its all about money. Just follow the money. Global warming? Its the sun..........duh!

I don't know about you guys, but from what i've seen there continues to be MORE tolerance to our hobby. laws are being p***ed to specifically make our cars legal! two years ago m***achusetts p***ed a law that allowed pre-48 cars to run fenderless. I think PA issues street rod registrations now. I'm sure there are a ton of other states where things are being done to make it easier on us. the states don't care about the EPA with us, they just want our registration money.

Well said Pitman. To deny humans have had effect on the Earth is ludicrous. If I hear some people's arguments right a certain party has an agenda for saying that global warming exists- what the hell is it exactly? oh right - to send manufacturing jobs overseas...WTF! They are all over there already. And the party that sent them over there isn't the same party- explain that one. But I digress...Explain to me the agenda of the majority of the world's scientist, and how exactly THEY benefit from this? You want to talk about an agenda? What about the current administrations agenda for giving tax breaks to oil companies? Looking out for us hot rodders you think? Nope- lining the pockets of their oil buddies...$36 BILLION in profits last year (E**on) That's P-R-O-F-I-T-S Holmes.

We have much more pressing rights and freedoms being taken away from us (speech, privacy, etc.) to worry that they are going to take our hot rods because of global warming! We are but a pimple on the *** of the great pollutors like ENERGY, AIRPLANES etc. And as far as one comment that was made about the speed limit being lowered in the 80's- How did that effect the hot rod industry exactly? New cars speedometers went to 85 and they had kilometers on them- F%$*&in' so******t agenda!! Come on fellas stay, informed. Stay away from PARTIES. Vote and act on the issues and keep up on the legislation that actually effects us.

Oh and Hot ROd Willie- great info on the DMV stuff, I'm checkin' into that for sure.

I don't know about it being a danger to the enviroment, but apparently my car is an eyesore. I had to leave it a jack stands for a week waiting for clutch parts. Code enforcement left a notice on it. It said I can't leave it in public view in a non operative state. I called and told him that I think California is a non operative state.
It all boiled down to someone in the neighborhood not having enough huevos to discuss the problem face to face. It's easier to drop a dime and let somebody else take care of it.

In the mid '60's, Car Craft did a piece on a Camero with Jardine Headers, Offy manifold, Crower cam and an aftermarket ignition.

There were before and after tests and the final results showed that the modified engine put out fewer emissions than the stocker.

However, at that time, CARB (Califoirnia Air Resources Board) had a thing called a "visual check" and if the engine didn't look stock, the test ended right there without any refunds.

I purchased an 18' pontoon boat last week and paid a preimum for a 40 HP four stroke outboard as more and more fresh water lakes are banning 2 strokes.

FYI, SEMA looks out for the consumers big time, otherwise there would be no after market!

A typical modern car puts out practically zero pollution (HC, CO, NOx) compared to a properly running stock 1960s car. The Clean Air Act, and it's amendments, have really made a big difference in air quality. The regular testing really doesn't do anything except scare people from taking off the catalytic converters....but that is a very important thing, and is just cause for the h***le (in the eyes of the policy makers)

California has backed off a bit, I had a similar experience at the DMV like hot rod willie. It wasn't a bad experience at all. My son just registered his 1941 pickup and it wasn't bad except for them requiring a weight slip on it (it's a pile of parts at the moment). Luckily he jumped into Flower's (his mother) roadster truck and ran down to get it weighed, the guy at the scales wasn't too interested if it was a 1930 or a 1941 truck so he got a good weight slip and got 'er done.

SEMA is going to be our voice in these matters, they have shown some political "clout" and we need to support them.
