I´ve been looking for a while a shop that sells forged headlight stands with shock mounts. I thought So-Cal having one application but apparently they don't... Do these things exist? I´m pretty sure I have seen them somewhere.

Found one link without a picture...

Thanks Evilt, but I don´t want the bar. Looks better than these, though...

Yes! Tab for shock stud under the headlight. Alum, cast iron, no matter.

Well... These seem to be "Hi-Boy headlight brackets" but definitely not what I am looking for. I don´t even know how to mount them... Thanks for a tip, though.

I´m trying to find a picture to show you guys what I am looking for... This may be close... Or maybe there are headlight stands with separated F-100 shock mounts, I don´t know.

Yeah, I noticed... Another side looks misleading... That´s what I´m looking for but with a tab for a shock... Like in this picture. Or may be some kind of different type as well, cast alum, whatever.

  15. I don't think those are actually forged though. I think they're "investment cast" out of stainless steel. Investment casting is when the mold is made out of some sort of refractory cement cast around a wax part. They melt out the wax and pour in the molten stainless, and they destroy the mold to pull the part out of it. It's an expensive way to make parts, but you can make really nice details with no parting line that way. Probably strong enough, but not as strong as they'd be if they were actually forged out of steel like the old F1 shock mounts were.

  16. I remember seeing some like what you're talking about in a magazine probably several years ago. I think they were made custom by Tig welding some headlight mounts onto some stainless So-Cal shock mounts or something. I think it was like four or five years ago.

I think the ones At***udor is talking about are the Cast aluminum versions that mount with a 45? angle on the corner of the frame rail... similiar to these but with a D shaped tab under the headlight mount that accepts a shock stud.

Chadillac: That´s it! Almost. These are weld-on. I prefer bolt-on in this case...

I already have these. Would be cool if they had a shock mount under the headlight mounting hole.

We are getting closer. More I look all of these stands, more I feel I need to build my own brackets... :)

I made these by welding mounts from a headlamp bar onto truck mounts

Rusty bolts: I think we are talking about the same thing, I know I have seen them somewhere. I don´t have a clear vision, though...

Russco: Thanks for the pic. Good idea and looks good too.

At***udor, you could easily have some tabs welded to those, or actually tigged. Some simple 3/8" aluminum cut and tigged would work perfect.

That´s a good idea as well! I didn´t think about that. There´s only one problem with these stands: they move headlights pretty far from a grill. I don´t know yet if I like the look. It´s kinda early-50ies style look. I may want to mount them closer but the radiator and shell are not there yet so it's in progress.

I built a combo mount for the lights and shocks. I made it from the F-100 shock mounts. I added sockets for the lights and a cross bar out of stainless to stiffen it. I did not like it. The lights moved around and jiggled. Yery distracting. I went back to seperate mounts. Maybe that's why you don't see the combo mounts often??

Thanks kustom clown! Actually these aren´t the pair I was looking for in the first place, maybe something more like SoCal type, but these seem to be so far the only pair available.

Andy: That´s a good note. If I end up to build my on pair from scratch, I need to take this in consideration for sure! --mika

    This alternative was first thing that came into my mind;

As you probably know, it is part of Rolf's Model A. Of course it gives you more work because it's not "ready to bolt-on" part.
