Real Dirty! This is the true definition of a barn find. The story goes, a guy and his son pulled the flathead in the late fifties to put a y-block in, and thats where they left it. It sat up in Wisconsin until about 4 years ago, then down to Kentucky where I saw it. Its a real soild car, cool old interior, and has every part and panel. The iceing on the cake was, after we bought it, finding it had a columbia rear axle! It came with the complete 312 that never made it in, but no adapters. I was kinda surprised I found only one dead animal.
Dude that is a sweet score! Looks incredibly solid. So what are the plans...get it running and drive it as is or what?
i like the tail lights, they made me think of 56-60 vette lights a little with the way that the fender was cut.
I've got the seat out and cleaning every thing right now. I'm gonna do a ch***is rebuild, and I've got all the stuff to pop a poncho motor in. Leave the paint and interior. Yeah, I believe thier Desoto bumpers. Thanks guys!
Very nice Jon!!! Looks likw some cool history, get some details. You are one lucky son of a gun! PM your # and we can catch up! Carl Cheaters Car Club
Better lite foot it if you leave the columbia. They won't take alot of abuse. Better yet sell it to me.
Thats awesome. What are your plans for it? You should totally leave those tailights just like that. They are awesome. You can do whatever you want but 59 caddies are used alot and alot of times something (like what is already done to that car) looks better. (I can say that since i have caddy lights on my car. haha)
Ha ha! Nice try Max! Its even got the vacuum mechanism by the steering box. The '39 box that came with it won't hold a lot either, so I'm gonna have to watch myself. Nick, this car is definantly on top of my 'to do' list. I'm planning a brake and suspension rebuild, and I'm pretty sure some wireing. I'm gonna leave the interior and paint the way it is for now. Thats the coolest part of the car! I hope to get it going before the pile-up for sure, but I'll have to push for Paducah.
I agree on the tail lights. I think they should stay as well but hey thats just my opinion. That old nhra sticker is cool as well.
If you don't have it in overdrive it's as strong as a standard banjo. If you rebuild it you can bullit proof it and it will make it a little stronger, but still won't hold up to abuse from an OHV motor.
Dang, 3 or 4 votes to stick with those tail lights. Mmm, I'll have to consider it. Didn't get the flathead with it, and by looking at the firewall, some one must have gotten a drill for Christmas. The pontiac motor would be mostly stock, with some dress-up. A couple years ago me and my dad had a '39 coupe with a hemi, stock trans and rear, so I know I won't be able to beat on it much. For the record, I can't get enough of the two stripes on the seat!
'50 Pontiac taillights are cool (and traditioinal), '59 Caddy lights would be plain wrong on that car (and would smack of the '70s). Helluva nice find.
