OK this thing has me stumped. its a 92 S-10. when I turn the left hand turn signal on its shorting and causing all of the parking lights to flash except when the headlights are on. when the headlights ar on the indicator on the dash comes on but nothing flashes. I thought mabey the short was in the headlight switch but I swapped it out and no change.

My question is this, where would you all start looking first? BTW there is four inches of snow on the ground and wind chills below zero. I would rather not be out in this **** all day diagnosing this thing.

The odds are your having a ground issue. You will need to remove your lights and check all connections and grounds. Clean them up.

To get all the park lamps flashing you would need to cross the park lamp wire with the turn signal wire and then when you put the left turn on all the lamps would flash. If it is just happens when you put the left turn on only, I would look at the left turn lamps front and rear for a bad socket or bulb with the ground corroaded or open in the front or rear lamp. This kind of failure would cause feedback like your talking about.

I've had this happen before. The gauges work intermittantly, lights come on that shouldn't,turn signals don't work... It is a ground problem. Look under the dash by the left kick panel where the parking brake release handle is. There is a ground wire and the bolt that secures the lower edge of the dash also is the ground point. These bolts loosen up. Tighten it and it should be o.k. Also check the one on the right side

Just had this happen last week on a Saturn. Some **** head put a single filliment bulb in a double filliment tail light socket. Shorted the turn signal to the running lights. I have had a filliment in a bulb break and touch the other filliment and weld it's self to it, thus shorting the turn signals to the running lights. First thing I would do is check the tail light bulbs then the front turn signal bulbs.

thanks guys this is why this place is so valuable. I received a PM on this that was exaclty what I needed. Step by Step procedure for eliminating possibilities. I am sure I can make short work of it when I get off work.

Thanks again. Keep posting any ideas.

Thanks to every one. rod knocker nailed it. Trailer harness. funny thing it the truck doesn't even have a hitch. I had no idea the trailer harnes we there. I unpluged it and hooked the stock harnes back together a its fixed. I did find some pretty nasty bulbs and sockets in the process. Its all cleaned up and working just fine.

    thanks

check your bulbs Gm has a habit of the one filament burning out and falling against the other in the taillight or front park lights. most time it is the one on the exhaust side of truck. If it isn't a bulb look under the dash and beside the steering column is a black wire with a green end on it that is a ground wire that will get loose make sure it is tight on the bottom of the dash. just a little experiance talking.
