I'm anxious to see your resume and samples. Of course I'm a fan of the webzine!

Of course, California's "lower level position" pay would look like a king's ransom in other parts of the country...

Hmmmm, lemmee see now - Rent, on bedroom apartment: $1500-1800 a month...purchase price of 800 square foot home/property: $350,000.00 ...gasoline-$2.50 gallon, when you can find it at that price...and driving to work in several hours long traffic jams $$$$...groceries...don't eat, no problem on spending money for food.

Yeah, I know, Pleasanton isn't like LA...but I'll bet it's not much cheaper...

    Good luck on your search...

    How close am I KIRK!!!...???

Really close. If you're here and in the swing of it, you're good. If you are coming into the area from outside, it's hard to get established.

That said, there are affordable places if you look, like Livermore, Tracy, Antioch etc.

Yeah it would be night and day compared to East Tenessee. Dirt poor and getting poorer.

Just sticker shock of $1500/mo. for a 1 Br apartment alone is enough for me. You can get a 3000+ sq/ft house here for that.

I got into graphic design in the begining to get into the auto magazine field. Made a drastic turn into prepress/printing work and now I just fix other designers mistakes all day so their files will print. This seems like an oportunity I would have loved to have persue in another lifetime.

If I had to transfer to California, I would just trade my house for an RV and a Vespa. You'd have enough money for all the basics: beer, wine, mustard, and liverwurst sandwiches...

Course, I can't stay inside the lines of coloring books...

The rent isn't THAT high... we found a nice sized, two story, two bedroom apt, two bath, garage, small quiet complex, $1225.00

One bedrooms $800 and up.. depends on how nice a place you need.

craigslist.org is full of places to rent and a good gauge of the area. Check out SF area, east bay area, pleasanton, Livermore, etc.
