Point taken, Gooch. You seem reasonable enough. I just get a real kick out of people getting wound enough and actually having the stones to post something like "please close this thread". I couldn't resist h***ling the complainers after this has gone several pages with no problems.

You really don't see any cool in that gloss black Bug with the louvers punched in the hood?

Grim, I would love PM's on that kinda project. Actually Hip was just saying we should build one too. We just may do that. I'll PM you on ours whenever we get done with all the other projects we have. By the way do any of you remember the hot rod mag that had the guy holding up the front end of a model t pick up I think it was. It had a VW emgine so all the weight was in the back. Now thats a VW the traditional way!

  5. Grim, the black one is real nice..... too nice In my opinion for a bug. I just dont understand.

I saw satinblack getting his *** ripped and thought I would just say that I dont really get it either.

My wife's brand new convert bug drives like a Porsche... I look like a *** driving in it but I dont care, the thing drives nice.

They are cool cheap little cars. Not hotrods.

Well, I'm not going to go nuts and tell anyone to eat **** or anything, but again I just thought the whole take it somewhere else deal was silly and seemed like trolling after a dramaless two hundred and fifty nine pages of "hot rod" beetle love fest. Whatever - I suppose I'm a spiteful sonofa***** too sometimes. It was never meant to me malicious. Just post pics of your Deuce as you get it done and send me the old chopped roof section and I'll be fine.

Cheap is right. The price of 32's and such really make things tough!

Sorry fella's but I can't see comparing a New Beetle to and old one. To me yes, a new one is kinda "girlie" but your old ones go back along way with alot of people.

Either way, heres a pic of my 57 oval ragtop I had when I lived in Denver.

well, ok. i guess i coulda been a little nicer to Satinblack. i just have a very limited amount of patience for ******** and **** talkers. not that i have'nt spread my share of each. it justed burned me we made it ten pages in like A DAY with nary a negative comment. i have very limited HAMB time as it is and i don't want to spend it *****ing or being *****ed at. i just think negetive opinions should be kept to yourself, unless you've been asked what your opinion is. everyone welcomes compliments but not everyone wants to hear critisism. put yourself in the other persons shoes next time you want to bash something (anything, be it cars or just thoughts and ideas). this goes for EVERYONE, even myself.

now lets get back to the subject at hand and just FORGET about the drama.

Man you guys are surprising me. You are more open to this German stuff than I EVER thought possible. Anyway, I had a beetle about 15 years ago that was dropped with chromies, blah, blah, blah, and it was one of the funnest cars I ever had. But after a couple of summers I burned out and sold it. Now, it seems, I have that itch again, Damnit!

Kustombuilder, what issue of Hot VDubs was that with Stanford's stuff? I have that issue somewhere and cannot find it. What's on the cover Vato?

BTW, Volkswagens are NOT TRADITIONAL hot rod fodder, but in a tradtional way. HUH?!

(60's bugs made to look like 40's Hot Rods are still gay...) [IMG]

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was just thinking about this and I remember the bugs with the poorly cast fake 40 Ford grills and the wavy bad gl*** hood that went with them.
I have to think that the poor finish and fit of most of them is what's bad about them, becasue in concept, they are not much different from a '36 Ford sporting a Packard grill or a '46 Ford with a Cadillac grill grafted on the front end, with a lot of lead and not always flowing part transitions.
We call the latter traditional 40's style customs.
Are Westergard customs Gay? NO WAY!
Is it because they were "kits"?
Barris andfriends had roof C pillars prefabbed just to make chopping tops on 40's Fords easier...That's at least a similar thing.
Then there's prefabbed mail order tube grills for every car made just about.
A bug is a 1937 German version of Airflow style car.
They have as much right to be hotrodded as a '37 Zepher or a 52 Topolino.
I think what gets most goats is the fact that you could buy a brand new "1937" car in the 60s and fix it up like any other "fat fender"era car without having to deal with barn spiders and rust and scarce parts.
It was and still is too EASY!
So it irritates the heck out of people who are still looking for that fourth perfect Fiesta hubcap.

Speaking of Dr.J ... I think it would look good with a airflow grille too. This one is a Fiat 500. Just imagine a flathead behind that grille, move the firewall back just a bit so it would fit. I think bugs are custom fodder as much as anything else, after all it is a 40's car for all intents and purposes. Just imagine if Ford made the Model A or Deuce for 40 years with basic ch***is updates along the way...

A while ago there were some posts with Bugs that were built G***er style.
I think those are really cool too, and I even thought about building one.
Now that I found the Special thats out the window, I will have to finish some before I start an other one...

How about this pic? She porting some VW heads.........

  27. IDK if this has been mentioned, I had too many Sam Adams to read thru all 12 pages, but I read somewhere that Virgil Extner actually was the one who designed the Ghia, for Chrysler, around the mid fifties, but the top br*** at Chrysler rejected it as too radical... it was in some book about fifties cars my dad got off half.com. Anyone know if that's true?

BTW, that K-G on the first page slammed, I convinced my wife THAT is the VW we need... [IMG]

And I tried talking my brothers friend who has a new Jetta (bright red too) into putting a triple wing on the decklid and calling it the "Red Baron"... somehow, he didn't see the humor like I did. [IMG]
