I've sold 3 of these GMC 702 cubic inch engines recently. Only made them for about 3 years in the early 60's. About 5 ft. long and about 1600 lbs. Low revving high torque power. Mine were retired from irrigation duty but they could be found in semi trucks too. Anybody else got one?
Not quite the same thing but here is Jay Leno's Tank car... http://www.bankspower.com/Leno-tankCar7.cfm He had Banks turbo charge it and fuel inject it cause gas milage was around 3 mpg. It was said after banks got a hold of it, fuel efficiency increased by 100%!!! How may times have you heard that?
There is a guy over on 67-72chevytrucks.com looking for one of those. I think he posted a wtb in the cl***ified area...Just in case you have another you are looking to unload.
Cappy's in Seattle had one in a tow truck when I was a kid. I remember hearing that it used a lot of the big V6 parts (pistons, four heads, etc.). True?
Yeah, they have one block but 4 heads which are interchangeable with the GMC 352 engines. Of course, 352 X 2= 702 cubic inches. I think some of the GMC 305 V6 parts work on it too.
Not as big, but a cooler sound: Ryan Falconer's 600 c.i. V12 based on SBC geometry. I have a sound file of a flyby (.wav), but don't know how to post it.
Thanks for correcting me! That should be 351 cubic inches X 2 = 702. Hell, I went to school in the Ozarks and I wasn't "most likely to succeed".
nice but do you yanks really need to compensate that badly? Why dosent someone but one of these v12 in a drag car like in the u tube movie that was brought up ages ago?
my guess would be: great for a oddball rod but not so great for a drag car... EDIT: DAMN why does my confuser keep doing that? (sorry)
One of the local wrecking yards called, interestingly enough, the Jalopy Jungle has one out front for adverti*****t. Always thought it would be cool in some sort of Auburn looking roadster.
I super-totally want one of those. I would build huge headers for it, and a custom intake with 12 webers on it. I think I'd also weld the valve covers together to make them all one continuous piece and paint them plaid like the hi-po 302 motors. The right gears, transmission, and overdrive would be critical in the car due to it's low revs ans high torque. 200K without an overhaul sounds pretty good to me too!
