Hello everyone. I'm very new to this and I'm finding a lot of great info on here to read about and learn. I'm very new to the building thing and learn as I go. Here's what I have now and am working with. My current driver and obsession. 52' Plymouth Cranbrook. She is a 2-door car, running the original heart and drive train. She's a mild 50's-60's kustom. The over-drive is gone. Elecrical problem. Wires in the back of the ****** corroded and touched and shorted out something. What I have to replace and this where your help is greatly appreciated. I have the rearend out of an old 60's Dodge. Not sure what from. the late friend that gave it to me p***ed away before I could find out. I originally bought a 61' Caddy 390 motor and trans for her and it runs brand new. Then I got the idea to put a 225 slant six with a 3-speed on the floor in her. The current Flat head is running very well, but some of the long road trips with the over drive out is kinda' hard on the old girl and parts for that engine seem to be getting harder to find...I.E. Thermostat housing. What i'm needing help with for starters, with all the things I have now, what would be the best dirction to go. What I'm looking to do is have a more than reliable set up in the car. I don't want a race car, but something with a little fire in the belly. Something I can jump into and trip the key, drive from Columbus Ohio to say N. Carolina and not worry. If something takes a **** along the way like a water pump, I know that a parts store near by will have it in stock. I also have a 46' Chevy Stylemaster Sports sedan. When I bought the Slant-6, I figured rather than basterdize a car. I would put the slant in the Plymouth and the Caddy mill in the Chevy. The Chevy is a complete basket case and is still running the original 216, re-built and painted. This one is for sale. It needs a lot of work. If I keep it, I've got plans. I just don't know when I'll get to it. I want to get the Plymouth to a point where I can move on to the Chevy or sell that one and find something else. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. 'Dillo. P.S. Sorry if this seemed like a book to read:eek:

  2. I don't know how available water pumps for the Caddy are but if you keep the car up to snuff you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Unless I was planning on keeping the Chevy I'd drop the caddy in the cranebrook upgrade the rear and drive it.

Now if I was going to keep the Chebby i'd drop the slant 6 in the cranebrook and drive it that way while i was getting the Chebby together with the cad mill.

But its all up to you any driection you take will work if all you're interested in is driveing.

slant is a great motor! speed parts around, too. 4bbl. intakes, etc. gajillions of 318s in junkyards n they usually dont give em to the importers like the chevs n fords. tons of stuff for 318s n you can get an easy, cheap 350 cubes outta it. think a slant ******'ll bolt up to an LA block, but dont remember 100%. long as u got a driveshaft take the rear n u can make it all work.

that's the thing. Noone would expect the Caddy mil in the Cranbrook, but then again, not too many are running the slant's in an old B-body either. Personally I think I'll go with the slant-6 in the Cranbrook. Seems there are a lot of speed parts around. That and it does not seem like it will be that much work replacing a 6 with a 6. Decisions decisions.

  5. Put the Mopar in the Mopar. The Slant 6 is a great motor; reliable and more.

The drive shaft is 100% brand new and was built by a place called driveline-1. They do all the companies Garbage truck Shafts and I got a great company discount. Before I bought the slant, they said that this drive shaft was more than guaronteed to handle the Caddy mill and want more. How ever, since my knowledge is limited and my hands on is about the same. I'm looking for the best course of attack. I know either way I have some real work to do. It's aobut time and I'm ready.

I aggree. That's why I bought it and I got it for a great price at $150. I had already planned on dropping the three on the tree to a floor shift with a nice swans neck. the slant came out of a 70' Barracuda from Texas. The guy was tubbing the car and had this set up for sale. So I snagged it.
