I have a 52 chevy truck with no bed. What year(s) box will work for a bed on my truck? I have heard it is a wide year of trucks.

    thanks,

47-54 should work - you might be able to use others but those are the "AD" trucks

cool. thanks. i knew that 49-early 55 would work but a friend said up to somewhere in the 60's would work. i think the late 55 and later beds are wider but I am not sure.

Chevy/GMC '55 second series started using a "standardized" mounting point dimensions so the Servis bodies, you know, the plumber's electricians and carpenters aftermarket boxes with the tool boxes on the sides, could be bolted to any GM, Ford, or Dodge trucks. I don't know how far up they cae but the early 60's (through '66?) Chevy stepside beds even used the same fenders as a '55 second series.
You are probably limited to '47-'55 early series Chevy/GMC beds of the same length.

Some of those huge boxes the washers and dryers come in would work...maybe even a refrigerator box too...

if i remember right the used the same tailgate from like 47 to the 80's on the step sides so the beds shouldnt be any wider.

In 54 the height of the tail gate changed, stayed the same thru about '87, IIRC.

The onlt difference was in the fender mounting bolt holes.

Hey Lotus, your best bet is a 47-53 bed. They have the angled side rails and have 2 inches less depth than later beds. It's this early style that your truck came with. Not saying the 54-87 bed won't fit, they just have flat side rails and are 2 inches deeper. It really depends on the style you want. Hope this helps,

forgot to mention that the width of the beds was the same after 1946 all the way through 1987 on stepsides, however the 47-53 panels are shorter.

even though i live where we get very little rain i do not think those boxes will hold up if they get wet. maybe i could take a refrigerator and mount it back there on its back. that might work better. :)

next i will have questions about what motor and rims i can use on my truck. ;)

thanks for the information. I just got a call from a guy that says there is a place in bakersfield that makes beds. they are not an automotive place...just a sheet metal place. It is cheep for them to make the sides/front he says. sadly he does not remember the name. ha!
