Model A Pickup Build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Taildraggin, Jan 29, 2007.

  1. Started on this just before Xmas, it was going to be my long term project built with all the right bits that I have been collecting for the last few years. But plans change and Rottenpop made me buy his Model A tudor sedan:D .

So I am now putting the pickup together with bits I have lying around to sell and get some cash for the next project.

Heres what I have done to date

Started with the 4" roof chop

I had new wood for the roof

  2. Next with the ch***ie
Used a stock Model A ch***ie with a new rear box section kick up added and home made crossmember

Engine is a 283 SBC and 3 speed manual box

  3. Body is channeled 5" over the ch***ie

    Just started on the floors

    Thats it for now:)

Is that the stock subframe, or did you use something else? i've got a 28 cowl and a T subframe I was thinking of putting together as a PU and purchasing all the other sheetmetal. But I wasn't sure if that subframe would work for the pu.

    thanks!

All from a pu? Do you know if the 27 T coupe subframe is the same as the 28-9 pu sub?

No, they are different. If you are planning to use new "A" sheetmetal, you might as well spend the extra $200 or so and get the correct "A" subrails too.

  9. Anthing will fit with a bit of tweeking:D

  10. looks awesome.. keep up the good work.. you gonna run a bed?

  11. After toying with the idea of using the old bed I decided it was a bit too far gone and had a go at fabing up a new one.

Enlisted my top beed roller (My 9 year old daughter)

Then folded up the top and bottom

Just got to make the stake posts and put some 1" box on the top edge.

This is at end of play today

VERY nice. Is that square stock on the top outer rails of the bed?

  15. Is the cross member made from another member or is it all new I beam material?

  16. Yep 1" box. Just got to finish weld it.

  17. I made the cross member by cutting up 4x2 box and making it into C section.

Wow, like what I'm seeing. Would really like to come up to your shop and have a look at the build in progress. Would it be possible for a couple of us to meet up? Myself, Nutrocker and UK Comet are based in Stroud, not far from you.

Sound job. Had a word with Nutrocker and if the weathers good and you're free we'd like to pop over next saturday. Give us a bell in the week, 07884492145.It would be an education for me and Pete (Nutrocker) is soon to start a '30 sedan build so he'd like to pick your brains.
Love the P/U by the way

Sorry, not sure I understand. Are you leaving the 1" in there or cutting it out. (Personally I REALLY like the squared look on the back and sharp line down the side.)
